We really love Ava for our little girl, but are afraid it is too popular... so are now thinking Avalon.

What do you think of Avalon?....

I just thought of Avon I'm afraid. ..

Layl77 · 26/05/2013 06:29

No, it sounds like a thing not a name. Tampon or something. How about Ada? Avril?

CrimsonRed · 26/05/2013 06:34

Geez Layl77, that's a bit harsh! You could've skipped the tampon thing.

I like it but then I like Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music Smile

AnneEyhtMeyer · 26/05/2013 06:50

Dreadful. Reminds me of the song and of Glastonbury etc. Layl is right, it does have the ring of feminine hygiene about it.

TobyLerone · 26/05/2013 06:53

I'm assuming you'd shorten it to Ava anyway, so what's the point?

It does sound like a tampon brand though. Really.

Jemma1111 · 26/05/2013 07:06

It reminds me of savalon the ointment

Caladria · 26/05/2013 07:07

Ok for a budgie.

KittieCat · 26/05/2013 07:10

It's a TV production company...

VBisme · 26/05/2013 07:12

I really like it, not sure why people would think it sounded like a tampon brand Sad the only brands I know are tampex and lillet. (And that doesn't stop people using lily as a name anyway).

singaporeswing · 26/05/2013 07:18

I went to university with a girl called Avalon. Her parents were quite hippy-like, obsessed with Glastonbury and healing crystals, whereas she was the most straight-laced person I ever met.

We knew her as Avie, she was quite embarrassed by her full name. I think it's pretty but does sound quite toiletries related.

KittieCat · 26/05/2013 07:20

I like the nn Avie

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 26/05/2013 07:21

It doesn't really sound like Ava, unless you are going to pronounce it Ayvalon, which sounds a bit odd.

EleanorFarjeon · 26/05/2013 07:33

Nooo!

forevergreek · 26/05/2013 07:55

Nope like savalon

CrimsonRed · 26/05/2013 08:19

I'm not from the UK, so have no idea what savalon is. And have a minimal knowledge of Glastonbury (other than the fact it's a music festival). Don't know who Brian Ferry is... had to google it.

To me, the name is relate to Kind Arthur. There is also an area in the country where I live with this name.

And I wouldn't pronounce it as Ayva-lon. I like the nick name Avie.

Ah well, I still like it. Probably shouldn't have asked about it!

forevergreek · 26/05/2013 08:21

Savalon in the uk is an antiseptic cream

seeker · 26/05/2013 08:24

If you're going to call her Ava anyway......

( I don't knew a single Ava, by the way, and I know loads of babies and young children!)

themidwife · 26/05/2013 08:25

Nah it sounds like Avalon! Ava is lovely! You could go for the European spelling Eva (still pronounced Ava) for a change?

RussiansOnTheSpree · 26/05/2013 08:28

You won't find a bigger Blake's 7 fan than me but even I'd draw the line at naming my child after Avalon. Although obviously it would provide endless opportunities for Project Avalon jokes.

CrimsonRed · 26/05/2013 08:30

We've considered Avy and Aveline as well. Avalon just sounded nicer. We wanted something more unusual than Ava.

And we don't have to use Ava as the nn. We see Avalon as a name in itself.

Not so keen on Eva, might as well be Ava.

OP posts:
CrimsonRed · 26/05/2013 08:32

Again... had to google the reference to Blakes 7... LOL.

CaptainJamesTKirk · 26/05/2013 08:35

Sounds like the name of a disinfectant or other household cleaner. Sorry.

Stick with Ava, it's popular for a reason.

I don't get this obsession with that names too popular let's think of something really whacky and outrageous instead.

scaevola · 26/05/2013 08:35

To me it would be a name chosen by

a) parents who are in to alternative lifestyle (maybe baby conceived at a festival?)
b) really devoted Blake's 7 fans (boys name, btw, in this case)
c) Roxy Music fans

themidwife · 26/05/2013 08:40

I meant Savlon!! Not sounds like Avalon FFS! Grin
