You have to choose a new name. Was there a name you loved as a child and always wanted to be called?

Have you never felt like your name suits you? Come across a marvellous name you're jealous isn't yours?

I'm a Felicity and I do like and suit my name. As a child I wanted to be Ruby Eleanor. As a grown up I really fancy being Claudia Kate.

None of this 'I'm happy as I am crap. Choose, it's supposed to be fun.

I was quite envious of one of my sisters, who is Ginevra, although she hates it. She is always Ginny or Ginty - but claims that she often meets people who, when told her name is Ginny, insist on calling her 'Virginia' which really pisses her off.

I don't mind my name, it's ok, doesn't need spelling, but is still reasonably uncommon.

I always wanted to be Annis for some reason. Still quite like it. I think it must have been a character in a book.

LinghamStyle · 25/05/2013 01:06

I wanted to be Savannah. No idea where it came from, I must've read it in a book or comic.

For some reason I still like the the American place name theme as I'd quite like to be Dakota, Kansas or Georgia.

My real name initials are L.A! Grin

PollyJane · 25/05/2013 08:38

I always wanted to be a Polly (hence my moniker) or a Zoë - in fact I am considering both for my unborn daughter.

The name I always loved for a child (since I was 11) is Phoebe. Sadly friend got in there first about three years ago. Part of me wishes I could still do it, but I think it would be unfair to her. I love the name so much I have even considered moving so I dont see them lol

Onesleeptillwembley · 25/05/2013 08:50

Wow, I'M amazed, both my names are on here. I like my name, but would have liked to be called Beatrice.

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 25/05/2013 08:56

I really disliked my old lady name growing up, and still don't really like the way it looks written down. However, I can't think of another name I'd prefer, so I think I'll just go for an alternative spelling of my name - Isabelle.

wigglesrock · 25/05/2013 09:05

I always wanted to be called Sasha, I thought it was the most glamorous name ever Smile

I've just asked my daughters, dd1 (7) would like to be Samantha, dd2 (5) would like to be a Lilly.

Thisisanoutrage · 25/05/2013 10:47

When I was a little girl I wanted to be Sandy. As a grown up I fancy Ramona or Pandora.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 25/05/2013 11:55

I always wanted to be called Felicity!
Or Star

Would still like to be called Felicity. Star not so much.

FreedomOfTheTess · 25/05/2013 13:20

My name is Tess, and when I was in my teens, I wanted a longer 'formal' name.

I was jealous of friends with formal names who had more choice about what name they were called by.

For example, one of my dearest friends is called Harriet, and she would chop and change between Hattie, Harry, Hettie, Ettie and of course Harriet in full.

I went through a phase of asking people to call me Tessie, and in fact that's what my dearest friends still call me, but it's not quite the same.

So back then in my teens, I would have happily changed my name to something like Elisabeth (for which Tess can actually be a nn), or perhaps even Margaret (as I love Maggie and Peggy).

However, I wouldn't want to change it, because I have grown to love Tess over the years. It might be short and no fuss, but that can be a good thing, and that's why my daughter is Sarah and DD2 (due in July) is most likely going to be Mary.

HilaryM · 25/05/2013 13:24

I always wanted to be Katharine.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 25/05/2013 15:25

I really wanted to be called Beth, but as that's ex dickhead's OW's name I think I got lucky! Grin DS1 was going to be Beth as well!

My big sister wanted to be called Wendy as a child. She hates it now.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/05/2013 21:06

As a young child, after watching The Sound of Music I wanted to be called Brigita. Yes really.

I'd quite like to be called Hermione now though. It's the name I give people when I don't want them to known real name on nights out currently Grin

simplesusan · 25/05/2013 21:49

I like my name now though as a child I wanted to have a common name like everyone else!
It's alliterated now too and I love it.

I remember wanting to be a Judy after a distant relative- don't like that much now.

I want to be named Harriet, so I can use the nn Harry. I feel like a Harry.

Or Dora.

BardOfBarking · 25/05/2013 21:58

I hate my official name but have shortened it in different ways and used different versions in my 20s, 30s and 40s My DH can work out when various friends first met me by the name they know me by.

As a child I wanted to be called Lori because I met a teenaged one on holiday once (I was about 8) and she was the most glamorous creature I had EVER seen.

InspectorRebus · 25/05/2013 23:28

I fancied being a Claire, for a long time.

Now I would quite like to be Mirrin.

Still18atheart · 25/05/2013 23:44

Anastasia or Tattiana for me

notso · 25/05/2013 23:47

Francis or Francesca, with Frankie or Fran as nn.

I didn't like my name when I was growing up. I thought it was boring and everyone used to think I was called the full version which I really hated. I remember a girl called Tracey joining our class when I was about 6 and thinking I should have been a Tracey.

ClipClap · 25/05/2013 23:49

I've recently change my name to Rebecca so I'm very pleased to see how desirable it is! I'm not using it in many situations yet, but will definately start using it more now.

ClipClap · 25/05/2013 23:49

Gah! *changed

PessimisticMissPiggy · 25/05/2013 23:52

I wanted to be Alexandra. When i was a child it had a sense of drama to it.

Now I'd like to be Susana.

elQuintoConyo · 25/05/2013 23:59

My name is here and I'm very happy with it.
When I was small, I wanted to be called Olive. In my teens that changed to Verity! Lord knows why!
My DP's other choices for naming me were Natalie (I have a 3-syllable surname, so that was vetoed thank fuck ), or Niall if I was a boy.
I had a narrow escape!

SlouchingPanda · 26/05/2013 08:47

Although it's not a million miles away from my actual name, as a child I longed to be called Annabel or Annabella and I still would now. So much more glamorous and exciting with much more interesting nickname potential that the name I have.

KittenofDoom · 26/05/2013 13:44

I wanted to be Alexandra too. I was ridiculed - I was a long, long way ahead of the curve as it was to be many years before the name became popular again.

I would still settle for being Alexandra. It has so many variations (Ali, Alex, Lex, Lexy, Sandra, Sandy, Sasha etc). I was given a dull one-syllable name that cannot be varied in any way whatsoever. Sad and no middle names either SadSad
