Any thoughts on this name? How would you pronounce it? She would have Cleo as a nickname..

Boggler- where did you find that incorrect information? I am welsh and that name is most definitely not Welsh!

Boggler · 22/05/2013 22:24

I know an old lady who's very very welsh called Cleone, she's welsh speaking and I just assumed that it was a welsh name?? Perhaps not...

forevergreek · 22/05/2013 22:25

I would go for cleopatra

Allthatglitters789 · 23/05/2013 09:17

Makes me think of a Renault Clio!

seeker · 23/05/2013 09:19

Why not just Cleo?

Eskino · 23/05/2013 09:24

Ive just sounded it out to rhyme with peony and its sounds much nicer than the 'Leonie with a C' pronunciation.

seeker · 23/05/2013 09:50

That's how the only Leonie I know pronounces it- to rhyme with peony.

MerryMarigold · 23/05/2013 13:58

Really? To rhyme with peony. I think it sounds like a nickname for someone who cleans their house too much!

evamummy · 23/05/2013 14:13

I think Cleo is a great nickname but I'd go for Cleopatra as full name. Not keen on Cleonie and I think people will not pronounce it consistengly either.

BlueChampagne · 29/05/2013 14:09

BikeRunSki were you thinking of Clio, Muse of History? Otherwise, how about Clea?

BNmum · 29/05/2013 14:15

Made me think of Cleone Foods - Caribbean Pastie maker in the West Midlands. For this reason I would think you had Caribbean roots. I'm not sure many would make this connection though so if you love it, use it.

BettyYeti · 29/05/2013 14:24

I knew someone called Cleona of Irish descent (think it was intended to be English phonetic spelling of the Irish name someone else mentioned). Emphasis was definitely not on the middle syllable though so it was pronounced more like CLEE-uh-nuh rather than Clee-OH-nah.

BettyYeti · 29/05/2013 14:24

or maybe it was Cliona.

Longdistance · 29/05/2013 14:39

I used to work withan Irish girl who spelt her name Cleona, she was lovely and it suited her. I'm sure she had the original Gaelic spelling, but spelt it how it wouldread in English iygwim.

Longdistance · 29/05/2013 14:40

Betty, we might know the same person, as I'm sure now it was spelt Cliona reading it back.
