First three letters of first name the same as first three of surname, would you?

Slightly hypothetical at this point, but something I'm thinking about.

I have special guardianship to 8 year old DD, whom I'm planning on adopting at some point in the future if everything goes to plan. If this were to happen, I'd want to give DD my surname.

The first three letters of DD's first name are the same as the first three letters of my surname, though it is a slightly different sound when pronounced as part of the name. The fifth letter of each is also the same. I don't think it sounds too matchy when spoken, but it does a bit written down. Would I be mad to even consider inflicting it on DD at some point in the near future?

Without knowing the full names it's had to guage, but I think the bigger issue is if both names have the same strong sounds. E.g. both names begin with a B and have one other strong sound like T or K like Brooke Baker etc, which could go either way depending on the actual names.

It's not like Ella Ellis, but it is like Columbia Colvin if that makes sense (really struggling to come up with examples here!), except the fifth letters are also the same. I'll see what DD thinks.

I like names like 'Ben Benson' or 'John Johnson', so wouldn't think it would necessarily sound silly. At 9, 10, or 11 though, I think it would be up to her to decide.

I agree, let her decide. I guess there are 3 options in reality: keep her old name, take yours, hyphenate.

Haven't asked her yet- will ask her nearer to the time when it's definitely happening. I have just googled what her name would be with my surname though, and Surname First Name with an extra letter in it is the name of a product, though I've never heard of it before and it seems like the type of thing you wouldn't know about unless you were fairly specialist FYSWIM. Is that a problem or am I worrying too much?

Unless her name is going to spell or give connotations of something rude, you are ok.

I think names like that are cool and I love double initials. Go for it! Can you choose a new middle name together? That'd be nice and make her name really special. You could even choose a brand new surname and change yours too?

If it's like maria martin I don't think its even obvious anyway. Being loved and cuddled and supported will matter much more!
