What names have you heard recently to make you stop in your tracks and wonder if the parents are a bit mad?

My most recent favourite is... Flossy, for a girl.
Made worse because my dads pet name for me is Flossy, or Floss. So to hear it as an ACTUAL name just makes me gawp.

Worst boys name - Banjo.

Lots recently, none of my friends/family I hasten to add! Just out and about, children seem to be named after slebs or slebs children. The worst name I have heard, ever, was a two year old who had the misfortune to be named Sylar after the villain in Heroes (yes the one who cuts peoples heads open) because his DPs liked him.

Ozfrazror · 10/05/2013 16:01

Not exactly an unheard of name but I couldn't help being a bit surprised to be introduced to a baby boy at a mums and tots group a while ago called?

Eric!!

usualsuspect · 10/05/2013 16:02

Don't be so bloody stupid, child abuse my arse.

I wasn't agreeing with you. I was being sarky.

Moominsarehippos · 10/05/2013 16:02

I heard a mum yelling for little Taizer (don't know about spelling but it was pronounced tay-zer) a while ago. (I said buzzzzzzz very quietly to myself).

Chipschipschips · 10/05/2013 16:04

wot iz sarky??

Lol @ Sequin

Moominsarehippos · 10/05/2013 16:05

I can't remember the last time I met anyone called John or Matthew.

NorbertDentressangle · 10/05/2013 16:06

Eco (pronounced as in eco-warrior) - 'met' him at a recent open day at a nature reserve/woods type place which was rather appropriate I guess!

When DS heard the name he quipped "I bet that boy Eco's friendly" Grin

thegreylady · 10/05/2013 16:10

Flossy is a common nn for Florence which is very popular atm.
My dh wanted Chad for our ds-I won :)

marthastew · 10/05/2013 16:10

There is a child at nursery called Lazer

thegreylady · 10/05/2013 16:13

America is the place for daft names with odd spellings-usually with 'ee' endings .I did see a Serinytee and a Destinee as well as Libertee and Rylee-Jo.

thegreylady · 10/05/2013 16:14

Banjo is the name of the little boy in The Runaway Dinner which is a great book for toddlers :)

thegreylady · 10/05/2013 16:19

there is a Ptolemy in dgs nursery class [I get many chances to share that on here :) ] He is known as Tolly and is a lovely boy. Dgs asks why does Tolly write P for his name?

narmada · 10/05/2013 16:31

marthastew Lazer??? Definitely not Lazar? (which is a common slavic name). There was a Lazar at DD's nursery who always got referred to as Laser, poor child.

usualsuspect · 10/05/2013 16:36

If it's,a common Slavic name, why is he a poor child?

AmandaPayneNeedsANap · 10/05/2013 16:39

Didn't narmada mean he was a poor child because people always got his name wrong?

BraveLilBear · 10/05/2013 16:39

Love Larkin (girl or boy) and Merlin... Blush

And yes, Khaleesi is a Game of Thrones reference. Means queen in an imaginary language There is also a Daenarys or few hundred out there - that's the 'first' name of said Khaleesi.

My dad was shocked to hear of a Casper the other day. I said that's cute. He said 'it's a friendly ghost'!

Also know a grown-up Loveday and met a grown up Khia recently (made me think of the car).

And also think Ptolemy as Tolly is pretty cool - my favourite book series as a kid featured a boy called Tolly and never knew (until now) what it was short for.

BiscuitMillionaire · 10/05/2013 17:10

There was a boy in DD's class called Binh. In his parents' defence, they're Thai. And a boy in DS's class called Cheetah (Indonesian).

Actually I know several young Matthews and neighbours' kid is called Eric.

IHeartKingThistle · 10/05/2013 17:10
