What names have you heard recently to make you stop in your tracks and wonder if the parents are a bit mad?

My most recent favourite is... Flossy, for a girl.
Made worse because my dads pet name for me is Flossy, or Floss. So to hear it as an ACTUAL name just makes me gawp.

Worst boys name - Banjo.

Teaelcie, Baby and Brian I know Brian isn't unusual but it just sounded odd to hear baby Brian.

Mariannesmum · 10/05/2013 11:01

Some of these names are out there. But Albert and Alfred are not unusual names are they?
I know a Boudicca. She is very cool and totally suits her name.

twirlyagogo · 10/05/2013 11:12

There are some gorgeous names here! Love Flossy, Spike, Dotty - and Bram is a great name too. Think I really like Lolly too now it's been mentioned. Also really like the way that names like Precious are used in some cultures, always makes me feel a bit soppy.

Am with Thurlow - names like 'Ian' confuse me. 9 months and neighbours came up with 'Ann'. I don't know how to respond to that type. Had a friend whose first three all had lovely names, fourth was called John. Not even Johnny. He wasn't named after anyone, no family link, she just said she couldn't think of anything else Hmm.

FreedomOfTheTess · 10/05/2013 11:17

Sugar Princess - the name of a girl an old school friend teaches. Shock

To be honest, I didn't believe her at first, so I searched for the name on Ancestry and sure enough there is a birth record listed for a Sugar Princess. Oh and her surname (which my friend didn't tell me, I saw it on Ancestry) is White. White, Sugar

Shock Shock

DizzyPurple · 10/05/2013 11:31

Huxley - boy.
Tinkerbell - girl thankfully! Cute on a baby but as an adult???

TheYoniWayisGerard · 10/05/2013 11:31

Dontae. Not Dante, Dontae Hmm Grin

LulaPalooza · 10/05/2013 11:40

Lavenderhoney - I quite like Django, but I hope the kid is musically talented with a name like that!

Babylon - Precious and Comfort are fairly common in the Caribbean and some African countries. I know a Comfort from Zimbabwe.

These threads always make me smile... if you lot heard some of the ridiculous names unusual that DH's friends and family have come up with you would have a field day. There seems to be a fashion in South Africa within his community of making up a name using either your and your partner's names or your parents names. For example, a couple I know called Alan and Geroldene have a son called Aldene. DSS has a similarly odd name which can be shortened to something more regular, lucky for him.

I know a couple of She-Earls as well. And a Storm.

LulaPalooza · 10/05/2013 11:41

ops strikeout fail

TimeForLunch · 10/05/2013 11:48

Twinkle. Poor thing. Imagine having to introduce yourself to other people as an adult!

ellajayne · 10/05/2013 11:54

Kayne.

It sounds like something the big 'ard blokes call their dogs. Not too put there but still a bit 'huh?'

SirChenjin · 10/05/2013 11:59

Spike is NOT a gorgeous name, Spike is a horrible name Shock

If you're going to saddle the child with a name like that at least give it a less horrible middle name

happydutchmummy · 10/05/2013 12:06

I offer you a little girl named.... Candida

Thought it sounded lovely, till I realised its the clinical name for thrush!

daisydoodoo · 10/05/2013 12:07

my son goes to school with a Kc, spelt that way and I didnt believe ds1 (15) so asked a few of his friends who confirm that Kc is in fact Kc!

ds1 has n unusual name but it is a name at least and one with historical connections.

daisydoodoo · 10/05/2013 12:08

although dare i admit spelt wrong as dh (now xh) when registered his name got the i and the e the wrong way round Sad I knew i should have sent him with a note!

SirChenjin · 10/05/2013 12:10

Did anyone see the (lovely) young lad on Breakfast news this morning by the name of JaJa (that's pronounced Jay Jay by the way Wink). I thought of this thread when I read his name...Grin

bollockstoit · 10/05/2013 12:12

Noddy Holder's son is called Django, and a friend of a friend of mine's son is also called Django. Wonder if it's the same one mentioned up-thread? I also know a little boy called Phoenix.

MoonlightandRoses · 10/05/2013 12:19

Probably apocryphal, but my old English teacher alleged he knew of girl twins Ima and Ura (surname Hogg...). Apparently their father wanted boys. Hmm

Trazzletoes · 10/05/2013 12:33

Ooh I know a Django too! I think it's a lovely name.

Fuzzysnout · 10/05/2013 12:36

Bracken (boy)

bollockstoit · 10/05/2013 12:38

Django's turning out to be the commonest name on this thread, which I know was not the effect that his parents were going for Wink

MummyBurrows · 10/05/2013 12:39

A family friend called her dd Bambino and her ds Phoenix..

Neighbours dd is called Harmony...

Also know a girl who's name is Teagan Reagan Frai...not so much 'huh?' as "really?!"

Also know a Karn (boy),Caydence (girl),Blaize (boy),Asher (boy) and Richenda (girl)

My mums lastest girls name suggestion to me last night was a name of her own making... Christim...a combination of her and my dads names....no mother, just no...

notso · 10/05/2013 12:45

Grin Mummyburrows I love it when you see a house presumably named after it's owners. On the way to my mums there is a Gargret and a Tonynda!

TigOldBitties · 10/05/2013 12:46

Asher is a name in the Book of Genesis.

The only two in probably the past 5 years that have made me Confused were

Sequin

Pinky (this was a 15 year old boy, who told me it was quite common in his community and DS said he didn't get much stick for it at school)

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 10/05/2013 12:46

Icicle for a boy 'Icy' for short!

TigOldBitties · 10/05/2013 12:47

I also knew a Garianne (as in Gary and Anne, her parents)
