Freya or Mairi

Freya or Mairi for DC3. Our boys have traditional Scottish names and we have a one syllable last name.
Don't know many children with either name here (east scotland).

I think Freya is quite popular in a few areas of Scotland. (It's norse).

Love Freya.

Freya

Both are lovely - which isn't much help! But there are a lot of Freyas here (Edinburgh). I know 2 born in the last couple of months....

Mairi by a mile. Classic and undateable. Freya definitely the more popular at the moment so think it will go out of fashion again - I don't think Mairi will.

Can I also suggest Lorna?

Is Mairi pronounced Varry? Or is that when it has an 'h' in it?

EsmeWeatherwax · 05/05/2013 18:12

Mairi. Freya is a dreadful name unless it's paired with a norse sounding second name. This is of course my personal opinion and not a personal insult. Like Mairi very much, much more Scottish to go with your boys names.

I love Mairi, I'm not so keen on Freya and I know loads of them - it seems to have become really popular in the last 5 years or so,

Mairi is pronounced Marry, well unless you're speaking gaelic and then it turns into Mhairi pronounced varry when you address somebody called Mairi.

soontobeslendergirl · 05/05/2013 18:17

Mairi is just pronounced Ma-ray
