Reuben?

Since my ds was born I've noticed lots of little Reubens!

Do you become more aware of the name if you have a dc with it?

Just interested!

Reuben, Isaac, Joshua, Noah, Elijah and Jacob are all super popular in London. They are this era's Mark, Paul, Jason etc.

lljkk · 01/05/2013 14:07

Don't know a single one. Of any age!

VerySmallSqueak · 01/05/2013 14:09

I don't know any.

kerala · 01/05/2013 17:43

Actually if I were naming a boy I would go with Mark. Clear, simple, non faddy and will leave all the Jacobs and Noahs in the shade Grin

Rhubarbgarden · 01/05/2013 17:59

Jenny I think that's a good guess.

PearlyWhites · 01/05/2013 18:03

My friends ds is Rueben he is 9 months

photographerlady · 02/05/2013 11:46

Reuben is a sandwich, and its tasty

ben5 · 02/05/2013 11:51

I have a Ruben in my cub pack but he's the only one I know

JennyMackerz · 02/05/2013 12:35

Reuben is a sandwich? I ahd heard that there was a sandwich named Reuben in America but do Americans consider it totally unusable because of that? That might be a good thing. Names that become very popular very quickly in America can sound a little insubstantial to the UK ear. NOT going to give any examples for fear of upsetting anybody. But two names that wouldn't work in the USA Jemima and Reuben, I think they are 'safe' from being the next tracey and wayne.

DaveMccave · 03/05/2013 11:46

It's very popular. I know 5 in real life, and about 10 online.

CheerfulYank · 03/05/2013 11:50

It's not because Reuben is a sandwich that it doesn't work in the US yet, it's because it's still a hillbilly name.

oohaveabanana · 03/05/2013 11:51

I think it's definitely getting more popular - I know a few. Still a lovely name, though.

pickledginger · 03/05/2013 12:49

Reuben was 72nd on the last ONS list for boys names from 2011 (published in 2012). 941 babies were called Reuben. The list for 2012 comes out this summer and I'm sure it will have gone up.

pickledginger · 03/05/2013 12:52

898 of those 941 were born in England.

katrinefonsmark · 03/05/2013 12:59

If you want to avoid a trend puck names you and your contemporaries have. Go for Lisa, Darren, Paul, Claire, Debbie, Dawn, Joanne and Nicola and you'll be fine.

katrinefonsmark · 03/05/2013 13:02

Or how about baby Ray? You'll be on your own with that one.

BigBoobiedBertha · 03/05/2013 13:04

I know a couple.

Not sure you do become more aware of names. I don't hear either of my two's names often and one of them was top 30 when he was born.

pygmy · 03/05/2013 13:16

If you add the Rubens to the Reubens, plus other spellings, it would be a lot higher in the stats!

notso · 03/05/2013 13:27

I seem to have some sort of special "nose" for names, liking obscure names which shoot to popularity overnight.

Me too, we really thought we were being different with all our four, but they all end up being really popular.

MummyPig24 · 03/05/2013 14:22

I know 2 Reuben's, 20 mths and 5yrs old. It's not the popular round here.

Chottie · 03/05/2013 21:10

I do not know of a single Reuben around here (south London)

FatherSpodoKomodo · 03/05/2013 22:15

I know 2 Reubens. One of them is my own nearly 9 yo. And the other is the 2 yo brother of one of his classmates.

My friend has a friend with a Ruben, who must be about 11, but I've never met him. I only know as my friend always spells my Reuben as Ruben and it's all that other womans fault. Grin

scarlettsmummy2 · 03/05/2013 22:30

I know one! But he is 26. It's lovely

Hassled · 03/05/2013 22:31

I can think of 2 - one 11, one probably 9. It's a nice name - and a good balance between known but not wildly popular.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/05/2013 22:32

I have heard of a couple but non in immediate friends / family/ nursery. I irrationally hate it as it's awful in a NE accent.
