According to DH it sounds like a "nice" girl with long brown hair. Does it?

We have two other DC with, also according to DH, understated, not too popular but fabulous names(!). Am only 11 weeks pregnant but Laura popped into my head the other day it has kind of stuck. I am sure I will discount it by the time the baby is born.

I like Laura , my dd has a 6yr old friend called Laura. Maybe you could use Lauren or Laurie instead?

EllenParsons · 29/04/2013 21:52

I really like Laura. It's a lovely classic name but you don't hear it too often now. I think it definitely seems more timeless than Lauren, IMO. I also absolutely love Lara.

Rhubarbgarden · 29/04/2013 23:08

Lorna is a nice variant too.

thermalsinapril · 29/04/2013 23:12

Yes Lorna is lovely and a little more unusual.

FadingAwayToAHippo · 29/04/2013 23:16

I was named after "tell Laura I love her"

And yes I'm a young mum! 32 is young, isn't it??? :)

My SIL is a Laura & also a brunette and is a quietly classy well mannered woman.

emmyloo2 · 30/04/2013 06:25

I like it and we did consider it for this baby due in 3.5 weeks. However, it was a little "safe" for me. I like slightly quirkier names but my DH still hopes I will change my mind. I think it's a classic, pretty name that will carry her through childhood and adulthood.

HollyGoHeavily · 30/04/2013 06:41

Beautiful, classic name - all the Lauras i know (all in their 30s) are lovely, which is no bad thing :)

I'm another 1980s Laura and yes I'm 'nice' with long mousy hair!!

Its drawbacks for me were/are always being surrounded by other Lauras at school and work so everyone tends to call you by your whole name, but imagine your baby won't have that problem. And growing up I hated the fact that I never had a proper nickname as it's really difficult to shorten, though that doesn't bother me now.

I think its lovely and makes me think of Laura Inglis Wilder and Laura from The Glass Menagerie.

Tickledyellow · 05/05/2013 19:51

I just found this post. I have a Laura who is nearly four. I have not yet met another little one, although I know of older ones. She is gorgeous of course! I get lots of compliments for her name as if people have forgotten it somehow! Use it, you will not regret it.

InkleWinkle · 05/05/2013 20:27

I know a very beautiful 8yr old Laura Wink

bluecarrot · 07/05/2013 14:47

Ditto crafty cottontail. I was an 80s child and was a v popular name in my year group. In one high school class there was 7 of us. The class only had 14 students! ( and all but one of us had long brown hair)

I know of 3 little Laura's, ranging from age 1-4. Perhaps it's making a quiet comeback?

monica77798 · 07/05/2013 15:18

Very nice name and it is timeless. And all the Lauras I can think of are brunettes lol. Not 100% sure about the "Nice" though, lol. I agree with it being very popular in the 80s, but not so much since
