I've always liked this name but wonder whether I'd spend a lifetime correcting people who thought it was just Esther spelt wrong.

Do you know any Hesters? Can you think of any NNs?

I think it's an OK name.

I can't help thinking of a school friend who was bullied. She hated her name and thought it was why she was bullied. They called her 'heffer' as she was a big girl.

Lovely girl, horrible school children = bad associations for that name.

Oh don't be put off! Hester is a lovely name - I think of Hester who is Lee Scoresby's har-daemon in His Dark Materials.

Also, one of the strongest female characters in teenage fiction - Hester Shaw in Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines series.

Sounds v 17th century witch trials to me.

Not sure if this is good or bad. It could grow on me massively.

I makes me think of this www.comedy.co.uk/guide/tv/fresh_fields/

Hester Fields is the only one I've ever heard of
