Frey?

I really wanted Freya but found out yesterday we're having a boy. Is Frey too weird? Also, we have a one-syllable surname, is Frey too short do you think?

Too wierd.Sorry. Save it for the next one!

AtiaoftheJulii · 23/04/2013 09:00

Suppose you have a girl later - you'd be disappointed you couldn't use Freya! Hang on to it :-)

Hedwig3 · 23/04/2013 09:11

Like around the edge of fabric?

DaisyFlower123 · 23/04/2013 09:16

I'll go against the consensus and I really like it! I saw the title and was about to put, I think this is a boys name, but you obviously have that covered. It is easy to pronounce, nice sounding and different.

I'd say go on and be brave, don't little others define what you should name your child, let him define what the name means!

DaisyFlower123 · 23/04/2013 09:18

P.S. Should add my DS has an unusual but simple name and it suits him down to the ground, people often comment how lovely it is! Pregnant with DS2 and have an equally unusual but simple name lined up.

Artichook · 23/04/2013 09:18

I know a little Frey. He lives in the UK but is half Swedish. Frey was one of the most important Norse Gods so it is a real boy's name. I like it.

fierypoppy · 23/04/2013 09:27

I think the male version is Freyr Smile

Eskino · 23/04/2013 09:28

Is it said "Fray" or "Fry"?

I quite like It if its said "Fry". Fray not so much.

Artichook · 23/04/2013 09:28

Freyr is indeed the ancient Norse version but the common anglicised version (even used in Sweden) is Frey.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 23/04/2013 11:11

I really really like it.

gollygosh123 · 23/04/2013 11:17

Bentos

BlueStarsAtNight · 23/04/2013 11:56

I think two 1-syllable names is too short. I think you should save Freya for if you have a girl, I don't really like Frey.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 23/04/2013 21:09

I loved it both times I was pg before, but dh hates it so much that I haven't even mentioned it this time round :(

Tbh I am not overkeen on Freya for a girl, but think Frey for a boy is classic but really fresh-sounding and I love it. However, dh says it "sounds made up". I think it's a love it or loathe it type name.

thermalsinapril · 24/04/2013 00:53

Too strange (but then I think Freya sounds odd as well).

Fray Bentos meat pie

mylittlepuds · 24/04/2013 01:52

Noooo! Sorry.

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 24/04/2013 03:03

Well, I don't like Freya (sounds like someone who can't say 'th' to me for some reason), so to me Frey for a boy simply because you didn't have a girl to call Freya sounds massively contrived.

Blu · 24/04/2013 15:11

Too much like fray, which means a fight or riot.
or 'frayed at the edges'.

What about

Theo
Fred
Seth
Wilf

Nagoo · 24/04/2013 15:56

You clearly haven't read Game Of Thrones.

aoife24 · 24/04/2013 22:05

Frey Bentos here too but love Freya

Laquila · 24/04/2013 22:13

I have read Game of Thrones, and I still like it
