Thoughts on Albert?

Just wondering what people think of Albert. I love it, but am wondering if it sounds a bit pretentious - if you heard it would you think the baby had been named after Einstein?

I like it a lot and don't think it's pretentious.

Wishfulmakeupping · 19/04/2013 06:55

I really like it I really like Arthur too but that's getting very popular whereas I don't know any little Alberts

marthabear · 19/04/2013 08:38

Love it. Bertie is a lovely nn too.

SneezySnatcher · 19/04/2013 10:00

Love it. I teach a ten-year old Albert. When he first arrived at school in reception, I thought it was an odd name for a little boy, but I've grown to really like it.

RosieMole · 19/04/2013 10:03

Perfectly sound name. Wouldn't have thought of Einstein!

thermalsinapril · 19/04/2013 14:06

I like it.

BNmum · 19/04/2013 14:57

Ditto Marthabear. Love it, love love love Bertie as nn too. Don't think it's pretentious at all and I wouldn't think you'd named it after Einstein.

Close friends have a six month old called Albert. He's a lovely baby and it suits him. They were going to call him Albie as a nn but he gets Albert all the time. Great name, not at all pretentious and they've had no negative comments (except the grandparents of course!)

Umlauf · 19/04/2013 15:59

NO! Because its my baby name and I don't want it to be popular!!!

On a serious note, I absolutely love love love it, its classless, wide choice of nicknames which are all nice, timeless, and not too popular but still normal.

SurreyWithAFringeOnTop · 19/04/2013 19:54

Not sure about Albert, but love Bertie. And could be Al when older, which is cooler for a teenager than Bertie I think.

LittleMilla · 19/04/2013 20:55

Great name. Do it! X

Branleuse · 19/04/2013 20:57

I love it. Its ds middle name

Ihatepeas · 19/04/2013 21:53

Dd would of been Albert if she'd been a boy. I love it!

raisah · 19/04/2013 22:58

Lovely classic name and its not such a bad thing to be called after Albert Einstein. I can think of worse people to be named after.

Shardlake · 20/04/2013 04:07

great thanks everyone! yes I like the choice of nicknames, and also that someone called Albert sounds like he could come from a variety of places - I can imagine a British, or Central European, or North American, or African Albert. Just have to convince OH now (oh yes... and get pregnant Smile )

For me it's an "old bloke up the pub" name (& my dad's middle name) but it's nicer than Wilf which is getting popular on here.

LittleMilla · 20/04/2013 19:10

I have a Wilf Confused

LittleDonkin · 20/04/2013 19:16

Its my 12 year old nephews middle name. My sister said she wasn't brave enough to use it as his 1st name. I quite like it actually! I am 20 weeks pg with DC 2 and find out the sex hopefully on Tuesday would it be wrong to consider it as a first name if I find out I'm having a boy????

hypnotisingchickens · 20/04/2013 19:18

It's my DS's name and needless to say we love it! He was named after my very fabulous grandad, and lots of people have complimented us on it. Smile

LittleDonkin · 20/04/2013 19:21

It was my granddads name too. He passed away in November Sad

bigkidsdidit · 20/04/2013 19:21

I have one, he is always Bertie but could be Al I suppose when he is older. We get lots of compliments on it :)

simplesusan · 21/04/2013 23:06

I don't like it. Just personal choice.

afrikat · 22/04/2013 16:18

Love it. My friend just had a little Bertie and he really suits it

KittenofDoom · 22/04/2013 16:55

It is not "timeless". It became popular after the Prince Consort, continued into the Edwardian era then began to fall away as the 20th century progressed. It is a cyclical name.

FoofFighter · 22/04/2013 17:02

My OH is really pushing for this name and I hate it, well not actually the name tbh, just with OH's accent he doesn't say the T sound, and in Bertie (his preferred nn) it sounds terribly hillbilly.
