If a friend gave their baby YOUR name,

would you find it odd? As in their actual name?
My DH and I want to name our DD Josephine, but it is the name of my good friend (was my bridesmaid, been friends since primary school).
She goes by Jo, but we would probably use Jojo (DH is a Beatles fan and is looking forward far too much to shouting 'Get back Jojo' in the park). I imagine Jojo would become Jo in time though.
There are no other Josephines in our social circle and I do think of my friend whenever I hear the name. I have a great great Aunt Josephine, so the name is in the family.
I do love my friend, but we're not super close. I don't want her to feel awkward, or feel that we have named the baby for her and feel like she has to reciprocate or somethingGrin
How would you feel if you had a relatively uncommon name and a friend used it for their LO?

Grin Mibby. My friend has a disturbing liking for Westlife, so I hope that's not contagious.
Aww Mammoth; that's lovely.
Could you insist on Lady Mammoth, as opposed to Baby Mammoth? Sounds much grander!

A friend who I have known since she was 10 named her first born my name, (not after me iyswim!) I was incredibly flattered and didn't find it weird at all.

I wouldn't give it a second thought.

This has happened to me twice. Two couples, good friends of mine, have called their daughters my.name, and have made a point of saying that they were named after me. I find this incredibly flattering, and feel I have a lovely bond with the young Bikes, both are about 11 now. One couple had asked me to be Godmother, which I declined (confirmed Catholic, but seriously lapsed and now atheist). They said naming their DD after me was the next best thing.

Not weird at all and Josephine is a lovely name. I would be quite flattered actually.
