English sounding punjabi names?

My dh's family are punjabi and we want to please both our families when naming our baby girl but are struggling for ideas! Any suggestions? :)

What is their religious background?
Most Punjabi people I know are Sikh, but I also know Hindus and some Muslims from the Pakistan side of the Punjab. I think this would have some influence on names.

Same set up and we went for ruby. Not technically punjabi but everybody happy with it.
Cousin is Jasmine.

Maya or Yasmin - i.e. a little exotic but still "normal"

I know a family who named their children Tanya, Esha and Arun - all names which work well in England and India. I particularly love Esha.

None of these are English, but all sound pretty to an Anglophone's ear!

What about Tara? It is a hindu name originally (as will as being an Irish name which is used in England too)

friends in similar situation have picked Hari (boy) Zhara, Kyra (girls) and Zak is from another family with Pakistan/English backgrounds but sorry I dont know what areas the names originate from.

I taught a Sultana, it's not a comedy option.

I used to know a Lakshmi whose nn was Mary.

Saraswathi, you could use Sara for day to day.

My inlaws are indian - it all depends on their religion and the area they come from to name soem kids as for them, some names are very hindu or muslim etc.

I love Lakshmi, Nina, Navya(me neice), Preeti, Maya (friends baby),

I know a Devina (Indian version of Davina). It means goddess in Hindi. Love that name.

There's a version of Sophie in almost every culture known to man, that's why I suggested Safiya.

How about Dara or Dhanna?
Sian, Hera, Johdi, Sonny?
