Baby names

how many kids do you know called Arlo and what are they like?

I love this name, probably because it comes with NO connotations. I don't know anyone called Arlo apart from Arlo Guthrie.

However, I know it has shot up in popularity recently and friends of mine who already have kids casually tell me they know 4 or 5 Arlos. I don't want to give DS a faddy name, so I'm trying to guage how popular it really is.

So - as in the title: how many kids do you know called Arlo and what are they like?

(second bonus question: what do you imagine Arlo to be like?)

lockets can you link me to the source that tells you how many we're born, or did you work it out?

I'm hoping to use a similar 'style' name. Seeing it on MN a lot has worried me its much more popular than I thought. It's a similar name stat in 2011 to Arlo (which I also love) and I thought that sounded pretty high, but if its only about 200 babies a year that's lower than I thought...

The 'mums net' name thing is ringing very true for me. I keep being put off names by how often I see them mentioned on here buy I think the reality is a lot different.

1 - he's very very charming & has a soft spot for DD, he's only 7 but already knows to charm mum first, gives me carefully wrapped & decorated packages with sweets & notes inviting her for coffee, telling me he knew I must be her mum, because I'm pretty like DD (hahaha) & I loved his home made serial killer style (cut out newsprint) valentines card.

He will be a real lady killer when he's grownGrin

This is currently my top choice on the baby list... I was actually thinking of posting a similar thread - perhaps that says something?!

I don't know any. I think a child with this name would be just like any other child tbh.

Parents OTOH Smile would be aspirational.

It just makes me think of Harlow. Sorry.

Also, as as side note, I'm not sure I trust the baby name stats website - it claims there weren't any children born with my DS's name in 2010, but I can assure you he is a very real, very sticky, tantrum-throwing thing!

I know two, one is 4, longish blonde curly hair, a real character and parents slightly hippy but slightly arty but professional jobs. The other is 3, sporty looking, parents are cop / teacher. Pretty different really and I think it suits them both!

Thanks frigg I'd been using that but hadn't paid much attention to the graph only the chart number, oops!

thepartysover they show as 0 if 2 or less have been born, for confidentiality. So you picked a truly unique name that year :)

I know two between 18mths and 4 yo. I think it sounds a bit try hard personally. (Also sounds like how my dad would pronounce Harlow!)

I wonder when the baby name stats website will be updated... obviously a lot can change in 3 years.

Not read the whole thread so somebody else might have said this, but the head baddy vampire in Twilight is Aro not Arlo.

Arlo is a fab name, I also have a gorgeous one... might have first heard it suggested from Frigg, so it possibly counts as a MN name... Grin

None, we are on north east but have lots of friends in SE too.

Seems to be banded about a lot on here though.

I know one and he's mine! He has a more normal middle name in case he didn't like it when he's older. Neither DH or I are pretentious but we didn't want to call him a name that 5 of his classmates would share. Although it now seems to be heading that way Grin. He's 2, blond and scrumptious. (Slightly biased!!) Grandparents were a bit Blushoriginally at the name (except my DF who loves arlo Guthrie!) but they now love it as they associate it with him. If you love it go for it.

I know three, an adult and two preschoolers. I think the adult is rather startled about the sudden surge in popularity of a name he's been forced to repeat and spell for the last thirty odd years.
