And we will call her Evie for short. Cute or too much of an old woman's name?
Confused

Old lady's name!

pigletpower · 29/03/2013 11:08

I love Audrey not too keen on Evelyn. Evie is a little overused shall we say? Audrey Eve goes well.I prefer single sylable [sp?!] middle names.

MidnightMasquerader · 29/03/2013 18:59

In all honesty...? The world officially has enough Evies. Wink

Audrey Evelyn, on the other hand, is lovely.

MortifiedAdams · 29/03/2013 19:01

Love Evelyn Audrey however isnt it pronounce ever-lin? Sorry, just seems odd to get Evie from that and think Ever would be a better, more natural and more unique NN. Not that you can particularly control NNs.

MidnightMasquerader · 29/03/2013 19:04

It can be pronounced Eve-lyn, although that's less common.

In any case, Evie is a common shortening for Evelyn (and extraordinarily popular).

pigletpower · 29/03/2013 19:04

But wouldn't Ever just sound like a Cockney saying Heather?!Wink

MortifiedAdams · 29/03/2013 19:06

Depends if you are anywhere near London. Where I am it wouldnt.

EeyoresGloomyPlace · 29/03/2013 19:09

Dd2s name is Evelyn, I have loved it for years and never ever met another. Only upon joining MN did I learn how apparently 'over used' it is. :( DH calls her Evie so I guess that makes us even more common. Still never met another in RL though.

OP your combination is beautiful.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2013 21:49

Lovely but agree that Audrey Evelyn is even better!

anonymosity · 29/03/2013 21:59

I like the names, but should point out there are a ton of "Evie"s out there.

Ruprekt · 29/03/2013 22:01

Is she 55?

Thought not.

Both names are so dreary imho.

Genre of Barbara, Susan, Audrey, Evelyn, Dorothy, Anne etc

So many pretty names out there.

HaDeHaDeHa · 29/03/2013 22:03

My initial thought was "what gender is this baby?". I thought it was an inter-war multi-gender type of name.

HaDeHaDeHa · 29/03/2013 22:05

Perhaps "multi-gender" isn't quite the right term (!) but hopefully you know what I mean!

I may also be confusing Audrey aiwth Aubrey but if I can so might anyone else.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 29/03/2013 22:08

For a boy, maybe. For a girl, not so much.

steppemum · 29/03/2013 22:31

I have to say that when I read the thread title I wasn't sure if the baby was boy or a girl.

Evelyn is usually used as a girl's name, but it used to be a common boys name, ( Evelyn Waugh) and audrey is also unisex name.

So personally I wouldn't put them together.

juneybean · 29/03/2013 22:34

I love it!

CrackerJackShack · 31/03/2013 07:47

Evie is common? I've never in my life met an Evie. Confused

crackerjack me neither (except my own!). Maybe it depends where you live? Use the name, its lovely :)

VodIsGod · 31/03/2013 18:54

I know two girls aged under 5 called Evelyn, shortened to Evie... And I know countless other girls called Eve, Eva, Ava zzzzzZzzzzz

Floralnomad · 31/03/2013 18:58

Audrey is a horrible ,dowdy name .Evelyn is lovely and I only know one Evie as well.

lottiegarbanzo · 31/03/2013 19:36

Lovely, that way around.

Evie is very popular amongst the under fives but rarely from Evelyn I think.

CrackerJackShack · 01/04/2013 10:30

Well Audrey has to go in as I promised my DH that we would at least use it as a middle name. It's the name of his much loved Grandmother who passed away a couple of years ago, and since he agreed to name DS after my much loved Grandfather who also passed, I can hardly refuse him! I do find it a bit of an old woman's name, which is why I don't want to use it as a first, but I'm happy to use it as a second because of the sentimental reasons.

As for Evie, well we live in Abu Dhabi atm, so no real worries about running into any Evie's here, and our next destination is likely to be South Africa or Canada, and Evie isn't a popular name in either of those places (looked it up in Canada and Evie or Evelyn didn't even make the top 1000) . So I guess it's a safe bet :)

Anyway, if she feels it's too common when she grows up she can always switch to Evelyn or even Audrey. :)
