Struggling with inspiration for boys names

Gingerbreadpixie · 27/03/2013 16:31

After being convinced we were having a girl from the beginning, we found out today we're actually having a boy! :)

We had a list of about 20 girls names and only a few boys names. If anyone can help with some more I'd be very grateful!

I like:

Dylan
Oscar
Thomas
Finn (DH doesn't like)
Rowan (DH doesn't like)

Thanks x

Given that I had a very similar list for DS1, here are my suggestions

Asa
Evan
Daniel
Matthew

Gingerbreadpixie · 27/03/2013 16:39

I really love Evan but DH has vetoed it!
Daniel is very dear to me as its a family name, but would probably go for a middle name.
I like Matthew but have never heard Asa before. How is it pronounced?

I have an Evan

Asa was vetoed Smile

It is pronounced Ace-er

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 27/03/2013 16:42

Sounds like your DH is more on the traditional side

I also love Patrick (hello seeker!)
Michael

WeAreNinjaNotGeisha · 27/03/2013 16:46

It's A-sa (lovely name), as is Dylan.

Oscar is hugely popular at the moment - that and Noah.

How about Elias, George or Rhydwyn? (Gotta love a name without any vowels!)

Gingerbreadpixie · 27/03/2013 16:47

Im fairly sure DH wont like Asa. Its funny, he liked all these mystical-sounding girls names but for a boy he's definitely more traditional. He's very keen on Oscar and it is growing on me too.

(By 'hugely popular' I mean that it may not be a good choice unless you wouldn't mind DS having a common name for his age group)

WeAreNinjaNotGeisha · 27/03/2013 16:49

Asa definitely doesn't have an 'er' sound in our accent!

EmpireBiscuit · 27/03/2013 16:49

Isaac
Noah
Matthew

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 27/03/2013 16:49

Hmm

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 27/03/2013 16:50

Weare

You are right. It's not er as in er, but er as in racer

Gingerbreadpixie · 27/03/2013 16:52

Ninja - Elias is close to Ellis, which I like.

I would like to find a name that's not so common but all the ones i like tend to show up in the "top 20" lists!

Oh, our surname is a Scottish "Mac...." Name btw

OP posts:
Rowan1204 · 27/03/2013 18:16

I have a Rowan (can also be spellled Rohan)
And planning on naming one of my twin boys Oscar.
Other will be Arthur (Artie for short)

Sounds like we have simikar tastes, so here were some others from our shortlist...

Theo
Jude
Edward
Henry
Sebastian

Rowan1204 · 27/03/2013 18:17

Forgot to say.... Elliott?

Gingerbreadpixie · 27/03/2013 18:56

I really like Elliot, have fir a long time, but a good friend has just named his baby that. I will run some of these past DH tonight. I like Theo. Sebastian wouldn't go with our surname though I do like that too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/03/2013 19:52

Love Rowan (dd2 would have been it)
Like Oscar and Dylan. Don't like Finn.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/03/2013 19:53

Like Elias a lot, but less fond of Elliot.

Gingerbreadpixie · 28/03/2013 11:18

All input very much appreciated!

We had a bit of a brainstorm last night and came up with some additions:

Drew
Lewis
Alexander
Brody

So, a bit less common than Thomas or Matthew but still not too out there for hubby's tastes. What do you think? Remember we have a very Scottish surname! :)

xx

OP posts:
Gingerbreadpixie · 28/03/2013 11:20

Oh and we both kind of quite like Max too.

OP posts:
bigbluebump · 28/03/2013 14:14

I like Rowan or how about Quentin? Or Tristan?

artyone · 28/03/2013 16:04

Lewis is a lovely name, it has a good meaning - brave warrior, it's also not too common at the moment.
I am biased though, it's my brothers name.

Gingerbreadpixie · 28/03/2013 16:31

arty - yes, the only two Lewis's I've ever known were both nice. :)

OP posts:
BelleEtLaBaby · 29/03/2013 15:06

Brody Mac-Something is nice. I'm half Scottish and I love that :)

Gingerbreadpixie · 29/03/2013 16:19

Belle - yes I think Brody has both Scottish and American connotations, but the Scottish surname brings it firmly into the Scottish camp! Thank you :)
