What do we think of Alma?

Saw it yesterday on a website about old-fashioned names, with an Australian focus, and my DH really likes it. He also likes Flora. I like both and we also have Florence and now Olive on the list.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

It's a pub

Really dislike it, sorry.

How about Ailbhe which is pronounced Alva? I loved this name but DH thought it sounded too much like Alma (which he didn't like). The Irish spelling might put you off tho!

If your surname is three syllable then it's nice. Otherwise I find it a bit brusque.

Wasn't Alfred Hitchcooks wife called Alma?

Yes, it means 'soul' in Latin and Portuguese. I hadn't heard it before but actually really like both the meaning and the sound. Feminine without being too frilly. Nice.
