Boy.

Love it for a boy; hate it for a girl.

catkind · 24/03/2013 21:09

Love the name for either. I'd think boy now as we know a baby robin, but before that thought of using it ourselves as a girl's name.

ElegantSufficiency · 24/03/2013 21:09

I wouldn't assume tbh. I know one in his 40s. In America it is popular for women of that age, but over here, I literally only one and he's a man. I think I'd guess girl now if it were a baby but I'd definitely check and not assume.

Robin = boy. Robyn = girl. I like it!

WhispersOfWickedness · 24/03/2013 21:10

I would think girl as I think it's used more for girls nowadays. Although I suppose if I was going to meet a forty year old plus Robin, I would probably assume male as it's only recently it's become a lot more popular for girls.

Robin with an i boy.

Robyn with a y girl :)

Its a unisex name, we had it on our list for dd.

VBisme · 24/03/2013 21:12

Agree with others,

Robin for a boy, Robyn for a girl.

Not keen on it for a girl, love it for a boy.

mrsbungle · 24/03/2013 21:13

I also think of Robin as a boy and Robyn as a girl.

I much prefer it as a boy's name.

Cocodale · 24/03/2013 21:18

Girl and love it would, have given to my youngest but spelt Robyn x

BecauseYourWorthIt · 24/03/2013 21:19

Love it for a girl but not a boy

TiddlyChocolateBunny · 24/03/2013 21:21

I have a Robin of my own so I assume boy, but if its Robyn with a y I think girl.

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 24/03/2013 21:27

I dislike Robyn but like Robin :)

I would have, years ago, assumed Robin = boy, Robyn = girl but my friend has a little girl Robin (named after a female american friend) and now I wouldn't assume either way :) She's a lovely little girl and if there's any confusion over the spelling (nursery teachers kept trying to make her spell it with a Y despite her parents telling them a million times it was with an i) she says it's spelt the same way as the bird with a very 'End of' look about her Grin

KittenOfDoom · 24/03/2013 21:30

Boy. Seems very perverse to suddenly make it a girls name, it was always a boys name when I were a lass.

sjupes · 24/03/2013 21:35

I - boy
Y - girl

Makes me think of robin gibb for a boy but it's Very nice for a girl.

OddBoots · 24/03/2013 21:36

Is it wrong that my answer would be 'neither'? I'd just think BATMAN!

MrsCosmopilite · 24/03/2013 21:38

I wouldn't assume. I know one of each gender.

MidnightMasquerader · 24/03/2013 21:41

I wouldn't assume.

I know an 80-year old Robin-with-an-i who's a woman.

London2013 · 24/03/2013 21:49

We're thinking of it for boy and I was really surprised when I searched it on here that lots of people would think of it for a girl.

I'd never heard of it for a girl before that so it's heartening that people think at least 50/50.

Boy, definitely. Great name. Rob is a good nickname too.

I'm not fond of it for a girl really.

EvilTwins · 24/03/2013 21:51

I know one male Robin (aged 39) and two females Robyns (aged 12 & 21)

ArabellaBeaumaris · 24/03/2013 21:52

boy. Don't like it for a girl but love it for a boy.

scottishmummy · 24/03/2013 21:53

What do you think of it TSC? We share one child's name so I'd be interested to know.
