My son is Thodore, Ted or Teddy for short. If I named my next son Franklin what would spring to mind? Would you connect this to the Roosevelt presidents? We live in the UK not the USA by the way!

No. Horrible bad idea.

HolidayArmadillo · 23/03/2013 10:23

Yes I'm afraid so. But if you're not bothered then it doesn't matter. It's a nice name.

gertrudestein · 23/03/2013 10:23

Yes, if I heard their full names. But if you were calling them Ted/ Teddy and Frank probably not.

They're both really nice names!

jelepomme · 23/03/2013 10:25

Hmmm. I thought so. I would not call my sons Obama and George. But I really love these names.

Yeah,I immediately think of the presidents. Nice names though but maybe not as a sibset :-/

jelepomme · 23/03/2013 10:35

I like Frederick too - but Ted and Fred is just dreadful.

I also like Stanley (but this rhymes with our surname so it's out).

Ernest?

MolotovCocktail · 23/03/2013 11:00

I'd think of a kids TV show that DD1 watches about a cartoon tortoise called 'Franklin'.

I much prefer Frances to get Frank/Frankie. Franklin is too cutesy for a grown man, IMHO.

jelepomme · 23/03/2013 15:04

Frances is lovely. Thank you.

I think it's fine actually, as both names are usually shortened. I have a little Franklin, I really wanted Theodore but wasn't allowed! Do it!

MidnightMasquerader · 23/03/2013 18:57

No, you will get sick and tired of people saying, 'what, as in Roosevelt??' at you all the time.

Frances is the female spelling of the name; the male is Francis.

SuckingDiesel · 23/03/2013 18:59

Frances is the feminine spelling. Francis is the masculine.

And I immediately thought Roosevelt.

SuckingDiesel · 23/03/2013 18:59

X post.

jelepomme · 23/03/2013 20:00

Thanks gang. I think it is a step too far. Fiddlesticks.

Suz - I'll do it if you do... Wink

Apologies, of course its Francis!! I knew it didn't look right but couldn't figure out why - d'oh!

pramdunce · 23/03/2013 20:22

yes I'd make the president connection. But have you ever seen Arrested Development? Franklin will forever be a puppet to me.

MidnightMasquerader · 23/03/2013 20:26

Yes, there are associations with one name and/or the other that don't necessarily relate to the Roosevelt family... But when you put those two names together to name two siblings, then it's hard not to see anything but 'American presidents' in big red, white and blue, stars 'n stripes flashing lights. Wink

Depends how you feel about Roosevelt policy ;)
