What do you think?

We really like it. Wanted a strong, classic, traditional name.

Any comments?

I know of a baby elizabeth (6mo) and another 7mo with it as her MN. I love it, along with all the possible nicknames (Betty being my favourite), and think it really doesnt date.

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 00:21

Yay thank you Mortified!

Absolutely love it. If I had a third DD, she would be an Elizabeth. The only thing that puts me off the name is the fact that I don't like the nns Liz or Lizzie. Of course, they may never choose that nn, but they might and if she did, could you cope with it (or any of the other shortenings that you may not like).

Other than that, fab name!

OkayHazel · 21/03/2013 01:41

I know an Elizabeth who has been nicknamed Queenie! Always makes me chuckle, but in a good way.

Love the name. So classy and timeless.

ScumbagCollegeDropout · 21/03/2013 02:08

Much prefer Elisabeth.

But I am not the biggest fan of 'z's in names...

emmyloo2 · 21/03/2013 03:07

Love it and on the list for our DD. Has always been on our list and always in the back of my mind. Not sure about which nickname I would choose - probably Beth although I love Betty.

It's an absolute classic and one that will carry her through life.

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 04:09

Thanks guys - feel happy again! My mum kinda killed my fizz with a v muted response (shouldn't have told her!).

Think we would go with Eli or Beth as nicknames :-))))

See that's why I don't tell anyone our name ideas because people have different reactions...I only discuss with my husband and of course Mumsnet.

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 06:52

You are wiser than me Emmyloo - I was just so excited!

Meringue33 · 21/03/2013 06:56

It's awesome, sure no other name has so many nn
Ellie, Eliza, Lil, Lily, Liz, Lizzie, Betty, Beth

emmyloo2 · 21/03/2013 07:25

Oh I am far from wise when it comes to baby names - hence why I have a million different posts because I keep changing my mind! I learned my lesson from last time though where I discussed names with people. Thankfully we changed our mind and didn't tell anyone our choice for our son. I am keeping my lips sealed this time.

But honestly, you cannot go wrong with Elizabeth. It is lovely. I have had two dreams in which we call this baby Elizabeth so perhaps it is a sign that we should also go with Elizabeth!

Our son is George if that gives you any indication of my taste in names. I like traditional, classic and elegant names.

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 09:47

Exactly Meringue

"I like traditional, classic and elegant names. " - exactly!

Flipping love it.

It's a strong contender for bump (a girl due in July), only with the Elisabeth spelling, as that's how it is found in our family.

I too like classic and traditional names.

My children are Jack, Alexander and Sarah. I'm sure they send some into a state of boredom, but I don't care, as they're names that will stand the test of time.

gertrudestein · 21/03/2013 10:14

It's a beautiful name! And she can shorten it to whatever she likes, or keep it formal. If we were having a girl this is what I would call her!

The only thing I have also thought about (and it's either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you feel) is that it's a royal name and so the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may well call their baby that ... For some people it would be great to share a name with a prince or a princess born in the same month/ year, but for other people it would not be so great. It's totally personal, but thought I'd flag it up in case it makes a difference for you!

MsWinkleman · 21/03/2013 10:23

I like the nick name Beth. but I couldn't imagine using the full name Elizabeth and calling it out forty times a day. But it does have nice nick names. Libby, Eliza and Beth.

MsWinkleman · 21/03/2013 10:26

Mary Elizabeth Diana Caroline - that could be a royal baby girl name

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 17:26

Freedom I am due in July too!!!

Re: royal baby name - thanks for the heads up but we're not english so means nothing to us (with all due respect, just has no significance iyswim).

Love Elizabeth, I like how there are so many nn that it can be decided based on dds character

MrsExcited · 21/03/2013 17:40

Very classic name. We have it as a middle name for one of the DDs.

JumpingJetFlash · 21/03/2013 17:58

You have GREAT taste!!! My dd is Elizabeth - I always intended to call her Beth for short and I do but I also use her full name a lot as I love it!

I think it's a name that suits you what ever your character or future professions - but then I confess to being biased as I picked it lol.

CitrusyOne · 21/03/2013 18:04

I call my Elizabeth 'Lillibet' :)

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 18:10

Lol virtual high 5 Jumping!

How cute Citrusy Smile

Love it.
It's DD's middle name, as I gave her a hard to spell/pronounce first name, and thought she could use Elizabeth or any of it's shortenings if she ever hated her name.
She's 11 and doesn't so far, but it's till a beautiful and classic name.
