Baby names

Find baby name inspiration and advice on the Mumsnet Baby Names forum.

OK, everybody. Time for a public service thread. Post real names that are unusual but not so bonkers that the poor child will have 80 years of explaining, spelling and justifying to deal with.

You could do a lot worse than Roger! The hero of one of my favourite novels, written in the 19th century, is called Roger- so it is a fairly old name.

colditz · 16/03/2013 13:46

Varies massively according to area. I know three Robins, and not a single Oscar

I have a Raphael too. It's not unusual on MN clearly.

I want somebody to use Aphra for a girl.

My great grandad was called Godfrey Everard Orlando. All three are pretty cool. Grin

Badvoc · 16/03/2013 15:08

seeker, Cairn is a name - as are lots of things that occur in nature or are part of our landscape e.g Ross, Moray, Brodie, Logan etc. No2 son was almost Cairn but it didn't sound good in the local accent of where we lived at the time so changed our mind.

seeker · 16/03/2013 15:58

Just tested Roger on my 12 year old. If he doesn't stop laughing soon I may have to call an ambulance.

There may be people called Cairn, but it most certainly doesn't fit the no justifying, spelling or explaining criteria
