Twins on the way - name ideas?

We've got twins coming in September, and although we won't find out sexes until May, I'm not feeling confident about our name list thus far. My husband is really fussy, so the ones below are our compromises.

Two questions: What do you think of the names? Of the choices, which ones would you use for B/G, B/B, and G/G sets?

Other suggestions welcome.

Boys:

Maxwell
Felix
Hudson
Thomas (too popular?)
Robert
Grey (middle name only)
Peter (middle name only - it's DH's name and we don't want a Jr.)
Isaac (I'm not convinced)

Girls:
Vivian
Charlotte (too popular?)
Rosalind
Celia
Philippa (after a favourite literary character, not the Middleton)
Felicity (DH thinks this sounds... uppity. Thoughts?)
Winter (middle name only)
Seren
Grey (middle name only)

Charlotte Seren and Maxwell Peter

Charlotte Seren and Vivian Grey

Felix Grey and Thomas Hudson

If your DH isn't keen on Felicity now, chances are he won't change his mind so haven't included it, (though how is it more uppity than anything else you picked?!)

badtime · 15/03/2013 11:52

Most people will suggest Vivienne, Vivien or Viviane for a girl, as Vivian is often considered the masculine spelling.

Willow36 · 15/03/2013 11:52

B/G - Robert Maxwell and Felicity Rose (prefer this to Rosalind for a middle name)

G/G - Felicity Rose and Charlotte May (Sorry to add another name in again!)

B/B - Robert Maxwell and Isaac Peter

I'm not keen on Grey or Winter as middle names.

Congratulations by the way!

Linguaphile · 15/03/2013 11:53

Good question. I have no idea where he gets some of his naming roadblocks! Shame, as I think the root of it is that he disliked a girl named Felicity (who was apparently quite up on heself) back in his school days. Sigh.

Robert Maxwell, is that a combo you'd want?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 15/03/2013 11:55

Didn't mean that to sound aggressive, sorry, thinking out loud, just unpleasant association.

HorryIsUpduffed · 15/03/2013 11:56

I don't like Winter as a name - even a middle name, for a summer baby. I'm weird like that Grin

I think your names are in very different style boxes - some classics, some vintage, some wacky. Is this really the shortlist? What else have you discounted?

HorryIsUpduffed · 15/03/2013 11:58

Ooh, also, I would only use DH's name as a mn if you have BG twins. I think it would be odd to name one after his DF and not the other. Is there a name of yours (middle name, maiden name) you'd consider for a girl?

Sorry for bitty posting, I can't see the thread when I'm responding as am on app.

Linguaphile · 15/03/2013 12:11

Donkeysdon'tridebicycles - hadn't thought of that combination as I'm not British and don't have the associations. We'd most likely use use Peter or Grey for the middle name with Robert.

Horryisupduffed - it's confused because my DH and I have quite different tastes. I prefer classics, DH prefers wacky.

Oh, and Grey is on the list because it's a family name that we'd like to carry forward.

Love Grey and Winter as a middle name, but not mad keen on any of your boy names, I'm afraid.

Out of your girls names I like Celia and Vivian, but only spelled Vivienne. Grin

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 15/03/2013 12:28

You'll agree on something, possibly something neither of you would have entertained early on.

It'll be a bit easier come May when you go for your scan Smile.

HorryIsUpduffed · 15/03/2013 12:50

Oh I do like Grey as a family middle name.

TenthMuse · 15/03/2013 14:00

Felix Grey and Isaac Hudson
Celia Winter and Vivienne (or Vivien) Grey
Felix Grey and Celia Winter

Like both your choices of Grey and Winter as mns.

TenthMuse · 15/03/2013 14:01

Also like Seren, by the way, but couldn't make it 'match' with any of your other choices!

Linguaphile · 15/03/2013 15:40

TenthMuse, what would you put with Seren? We just encountered it the other day and liked, but I don't know what would work with it!

TenthMuse · 15/03/2013 16:39

Linguaphile - Seren Elizabeth immediately came to mind - or Seren Alice/Seren Alexandra?

Of the names you've already suggested, I think it goes best with Charlotte, but imo it has a different 'feel' to your other choices - shorter and less 'formal' sounding. It's Welsh, so possibly another Welsh name? Think it's starting to get popular too, if that makes any difference.

JollyYellowGiant · 15/03/2013 16:41

I love Maxwell and Charlotte. Sadly DH has vetoed both :(

HorryIsUpduffed · 15/03/2013 16:42

Seren Alice and Carys Juliet

"Matching" because Welsh and sort of ethereal, but not too rustic IYSWIM. Sensible yet pretty.

thegreylady · 15/03/2013 19:50

I like Felix and Isaac of your boys' names and I like all the girls' names. My favourites are Felicity [not a bit uppity] and Rosalind.I also like Charlotte and Seren a lot.

CarriMarie · 16/03/2013 14:01

Felix Peter & Isaac Grey (especially if Grey is from your side)

Felicity Grey & Charlotte Seren

Issac Peter & Felicity Grey

The only name that I like from your boys list is Isaac, but thats personal taste, I guess. Isaac Peter is nice.

Your girls list is nice. I love Feliciity! Gorgeous name. Prefer Vivienne to Vivian and Rosalind is my least favourite Rose name. Rosa is more classic, Rosanna or Rosalie sweeter.

Still18atheart · 16/03/2013 16:05

B/B Felix & Maxwell

G/G Philippa & Felicity - bias about Philippa and my mum and dad were going to call me Felicity so I figure they go well together

B/G Philippa & Felix or Maxwell

I like all your choices though. No particualarly keen on Hudson (river) Seren I would keep thinking that there sould be an 'a' on the end.
