Being considered for DS's second baby if a boy. Any thoughts?

Love love love love it.

I traced my family tree back to the C17th and there's a Josiah in every generation.

Haylebop12 · 13/03/2013 20:31

Love it.

Friends ds's middle name as she wasn't brave enough to use it as a first name!

ZolaBuddleia · 13/03/2013 20:34

Love it too.

williaminajetfighter · 13/03/2013 23:20

Bit American Bible Belt...?

birdofthenorth · 13/03/2013 23:32

Love love love it confesses I'm a West Wing fan

steppemum · 13/03/2013 23:45

I love it. It does feel like a very Biblical name to me, which is actually one reason I like it. But dh didn't Sad so we don't have a Josiah

BeeBopDingALing · 14/03/2013 09:47

Josiah was on another thread in the last week or so. Someone said this which sums it up perfectly, 'Josiah would live in an Amish community in Pennsylvania. Drives a black buggy with a trotting horse.'

Frogman · 14/03/2013 11:22

How on earth do you pronounce it?

BeeBopDingALing · 14/03/2013 11:38

Joe-sigh-a

BanjoPlayingTiger · 14/03/2013 11:40

I know a Josiah. He is the nicest teenage boy I ever met. He mostly gets called Joe by friends and family.
I really like the name, but people will assume a church connection if you use a relatively unusual bible name like Josiah.

stargirl1701 · 14/03/2013 11:40

I thought it was Ho-sigh-a.

I do like it.

BeeBopDingALing · 14/03/2013 11:48

On an Amish programme recently there was someone called Josiah and that was how they pronounced it. Maybe you can say it different ways?

steppemum · 14/03/2013 12:04

It is Jo-sigh-a

same roots as Joshua and Jesus, so if you are in a spanish speaking context I assume it would be Ho-sigh-a?

ZolaBuddleia · 14/03/2013 13:40

I also like Judah.

Sixparrotspullingupcarrots · 14/03/2013 16:23

My DS's middle name is Josiah. Josiah Wedgewood was a social reformer and Josiah Bartlet from the West Wing was a very moral man and so we liked the connotations that went with that. Personally I preferred Joseph or Jacob but as it was a middle name I was prepared to compromise with DH.

ZolaBuddleia · 14/03/2013 16:39

Bravo for Mr Sixparrots!

MamaBlue4 · 14/03/2013 16:45

I love it, and at the end of the day, it's what you think of it that matters :)

BobblyGussets · 14/03/2013 16:48

It's nice. I know a Josiah and he is called Joss for short. So much cooler than Josh, which is ubiquitous.

xigris · 14/03/2013 16:49

Fab name Grin

Clawdy · 14/03/2013 16:50

Interesting points here! Ds and his partner are not at all religious but love Bible- belt names. Love the thought of the black buggy with trotting horse! Had never heard it pronounced as Hosiah though...isn't it Hebraic in origin, not Spanish?

Absolutely adore it.

The 'sounds Amish' thing is a bit odd to me. Yes, it is an old traditional name, but plenty of those have staged a come back.

If I had one, I would call him Jed, a la the amazing Jed Bartlett (West Wing nut here).

Only thing that would put me off is the nickname Josh, because my family and friends have a million Josh's between them.
