I adore Elizabetta, my friends and I were discussing 'common names with a twist' and one said Elizabetta, I've fallen in love with a name! It makes me wish I had called my DD this. Thoughts?

No...it's awkward to say but looks nice written. I prefer Elsbeth.

Rebecaa · 13/03/2013 19:30

pronounced like Elizabeth...

What?? How is it pronounced like Elizabeth? It's Eliza-betta....not the same thing at all and if it IS meant to be pronounced like Elizabeth any child called it will be constantly called the wrong name!

FeijoaVodkaAndCheezels · 13/03/2013 19:38

I know an Elizabetta (pronounced Elizabetta) and she is lovely.

Umlauf · 13/03/2013 19:40

Elisabetta is the proper Italian spelling isn't it?

Rebecaa · 13/03/2013 19:46

Sorry MrsMushroom, no need to get your knickers in a twist!

Yes I believe it is Italian, that's probably the correct spelling, I just adore the name! I do have a thing for Italian names (Alissia is Italian, right?)

Elizabetta just seems so lovely I can't stop saying it! Anybody else obsessed with a name? Grin

Rebecca then it's for French speaking people for goodness sake!

[tries to untwist knickers and fails]

In Dracula (the one with Winona Ryder) her character is called Elizabetta

Pronounced ElizaBayta

forevergreek · 13/03/2013 20:09

I know a young elizabetta ( e- liz- za- betta), they are greek

birdofthenorth · 13/03/2013 23:35

Loved it when we went to Italy and everyone called DD Elisabetta!

Agree Elsbeth or Elspeth are easier variants to carry off in the UK though, unless you have Mediterranean heritage.

mabongwen · 14/03/2013 01:06

It is nice, but said with my regional accent it sounds like I am saying her-eyes-are-better Hmm Sp probably not a good name for round my area Grin

HairyHandedTrucker · 14/03/2013 01:13

I liked it pronounced the way it is written but but not pronounced Elisabeth

450fromPaddington · 14/03/2013 07:07

Are you pregnant OP? That name us stop-in-your-tracks beautiful!

I'd steal it in a shot if Iwas having a girl. But I
like the sound of pronouncing it phonetically.

OP what do you think of my other favourite name Arabella?

AThingInYourLife · 14/03/2013 07:09

Hideous!

If you want it pronounced like Elizabeth then just call her Elizabeth, it's a lovely name.

Rebecaa · 14/03/2013 17:25

I adore Arabella! We're planning on TTC in about another year or so... Wink

I love it even more when said in an Italian accent, swoon!
