You thinking of using it then saggy? I quite like it and she could always shorten it to Anna if she preferred.

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 13/03/2013 20:03

Possibly in the future. I love Glory as the shortened version. Anna would be bad. Im Catherine Anne. DD is called Catherine, (family tradition). If I had an Anna too people would think I was very odd! odd, me? definitely not!

I spose it could be Gloriana, then no Anna option.

I like it, though have usually seen it with one N (like Queen Elizabeth I), and pronounced -ahna at the end and not -anna. Or Gloria is pretty too!

I'm really sorry but I'm not a fan. Sounds like a guest on Jeremy Springer to me! I know it should sound angelic and elegant but it doesn't to my ears. And she would possibly be sung "glory glory hallelujah" at school.

Apologies!

akaemmafrost · 14/03/2013 08:27

I think it sounds like a Country and Western singer.

There was a baddie in Buffy the Vampire Slayer called Glory (useless knowledge). Gloriana also makes me think of Elizabeth I.
According to my baby names book, in 'The Faerie Queen', Spenser also called her Astraea, Belphoebe and Mercilla(!)

Frogman · 14/03/2013 11:18

Glory? Seriously?

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 14/03/2013 11:56

I think its sweet. And it makes a change from bleeding Mia and Elodie!

I don't want to ruin it for you but Glorianna and Glory speak "porn star" to me ... Sorry, but that was my immediate thought!

Probably just my warped mind though ...

Bumpsadaisie · 14/03/2013 12:04

Gloriana is much better, though. The Elizabeth I associations rescue it a bit from the pornstar association and make it seem more "classic".

Laquila · 14/03/2013 12:23

Gloriana is better for me too, although I'm afraid I'm not convinced abut Glory. You might like Galina, or Clodagh? (sorry, not much logic there - those were just the first names I associated with it!)

scaevola · 14/03/2013 12:27

It was the name of the Royal Barge for the Jubilee Flotilla.

That, together with its Elizabeth I roots, makes me think of it as a royal name.

MissWooWoo · 14/03/2013 12:58

There is a Queen Glorianna in the lovely story "That Rabbit belongs to Emily Brown"

Hedwig3 · 14/03/2013 16:04

Huge great thing in Southampton dock!

BeeBopDingALing · 14/03/2013 17:35

Don't like it.

BackforGood · 14/03/2013 17:42

Awful

MadeinMarch · 14/03/2013 17:53

Not very keen but I love Gloria.

LivingInAPinkBauble · 15/03/2013 20:25

I love it! Is the book by Katie Fforde by any chance?

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 15/03/2013 20:30

Yes. It was a really nice read. It made me imagine doing naughty things with Paul Hollywood! Grin

Re-read it this week funnily enough, remember reading it whilst watching Great British bake off. Mmm, Paul Hollywood Grin
