Emmé, Terosa or Amarie?

hellonewworld · 12/03/2013 12:16

Which one would you choose?
Terosa would be nicknamed to Rosie and i like Amarie as a first name but would most likely use as a middle name, Terosa Amarie? Im also unsure if Amarie or Amerie is a better spelling?
I'm also keen on Emmé and like Jasmine, Alaska and Ivy also . Help!

No one will ever be able to spell them, you know

SanityClause · 12/03/2013 12:24

I have never heard of your three names, I must admit.

Of the three, I like Terosa. (It sounds like a cross between Theresa and Rosa.)

Jasmine and Ivy are okay. I have never heard of a child called Alaska, but no different in concept to India or Brittany, as a name.

They all sound like brands if toilet roll from the pound shop. Sorry!

I like Alaska though .

MajaBiene · 12/03/2013 13:36

Amarie and Terosa look made up to me? And Alaska sounds like a dog's name.

Ivy is nice, as is Emme, though I'd go with Emmie or Emmy. Maybe short for Emmeline? Emmeline Ivy is lovely.

ZolaBuddleia · 12/03/2013 13:46

Where did you hear of them? I'm a fan of unusual names but they sound made up to me. Happy to be corrected! Grin

hellonewworld · 12/03/2013 14:12

Somebody on facebook name their baby Terosa, and Emmé would be pronounced Em-ay.
I cannnot remember were i came across Amarie, i think it was somebodies username somewere! Alaska was mentioned on another baby naming website.
I'm happy to take critiscism i wouldn't want to hinder her for the rest of her life with an awful name, im also happy to take suggestions.

Rosie and Ivy are nice. Jasmine is not to my taste but is, at least, an actual name.

The rest are, without exception, ridiculous.

TippiShagpile · 12/03/2013 14:19

My thoughts (please feel free to ignore!) are:

Terosa - Testoterone
Amarie - everyone would think it was AnneMarie
Emme - sounds like a pet name for Emily. Personally I wouldn't want my child to have a name they have to spell out for everyone for the next 90 years (see above)
Jasmine - nice
Alaska - no no no. Imagine how many times she'll hear the comment "I'll ask her"
Ivy - isn't that Beyone's daughter's name? I wouldn't use a celebs kid's name.

MajaBiene · 12/03/2013 14:24

Beyonce's daughter is Blue Ivy Grin

GreatUncleEddie · 12/03/2013 14:32

Oh good. Op they are terrible, give her a real name, not one someone has made up that she will spend her life having to explain and then spell to people. Jasmine and Ivy are fine Smile

SESthebrave · 12/03/2013 14:38

I've not heard of them either but of the three, I'd choose Terosa.
I don't understand why you would give a child a name you like only to shorten it though. (I do know this happens a lot though so is probably my issue!)

As for spelling out names as no one has heard of them, I have a very common first name and surname and I'm always being asked how to spell both as they can have different spellings. My DD has a an unusual first name (168 born last year) and will frequently be asked how to spell it but I love her name and hope she will too. If I get asked how to spell my "common" name, I don't see it makes much difference tbh!

badtime · 12/03/2013 15:11

I have met an Amaria, and there is an American singer called Amerie, but I don't particularly like any of the names you have listed.

Emma, Teresa or Amelie.

ilovepicnmix · 12/03/2013 15:13

My name v v close to emme. I love it but have spent my whole life correcting people and having to spell it out. Wouldn't change it though.

NicknameTaken · 12/03/2013 15:16

I never weigh in on baby name threads, but OP, please don't do it. They're not good. If you like the nickname Rosie, why not just call the child Rosie?

PhyllisDoris · 12/03/2013 15:21

Terosa - awful. People will say "like the car?" (Testarossa) everytime she introduces herself. How about Tessa, or Rosa?

Amarie - also awful. People will say "Anne Marie?". Why not just call her Anne/a Marie, and have be done with it?

Emme - what's wrong with plain old Emma? That's what people will think she's called anyway. Is Emme "Emmee", or "Emay"?

Alaska - people will assume that's where she was conceived (like Chelsea Clinton), or that you have some connection to the state. There's also the "I'll ask her" joke mentioned above.

Ivy - the best of the lot, though not to my taste. At least it's an actual name, albeit makes me think of a kitchen scullery maid in a period drama!

LentilAsAnything · 12/03/2013 18:54

Amerie reminds me of a summer a few years ago, when the singer had that 1 Thing song out, seemed to be on the radio all the time. I liked it. m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=1JSXr_9SXEM&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D1JSXr_9SXEM I quite like Amerie too.

What about Emerence, as a long name for Emme/é?

WormCanner · 12/03/2013 19:54

I too thought of the singer Amerie. I think that is pronounced Ay-muh-ree.

I was also reminded of Amalie, a continental European version of Amelia. This name (and Amalia) crops up quite a bit in royal circles.

ImpYCelyn · 12/03/2013 20:36

I think if Amarie was someone's username it was possible in reference to Amarië (pronounced a-mar-ree-ay) an elf betrothed to Finrod in The Silmarillion.

It's not a real name, it's a Tolkien name. So it would be like calling your DD Galadriel, but more obscure.

How about Arwen? It's a real name.

FriggFRIGGisPoorlySick · 12/03/2013 20:39

Ivy is lovely.

Sunnysummer · 12/03/2013 20:58

Ivy and Jasmine are lovely, and also importantly, are actual and known names that will save her from a life of being ever-so-slightly mispronounced...
