I think Vivienne is a lovely name. Much prefer Vivienne to Vivien, don't know why.

ZolaBuddleia · 11/03/2013 15:54

Yep, the longer version is much nicer. Love Vivienne Dulcie but would be a bit nervous about the combo of initials...

BOF · 11/03/2013 16:02

I prefer Vivien, like the lovely actress.

Trills · 11/03/2013 16:20

Depends on how you are going to emphasise it.

Vi-vi-un

Vi-vi-ENNE

WormCanner · 11/03/2013 16:33

Vivien for me. Less is more.

ladymia · 11/03/2013 16:55

Vivienne for sure. Not keen on any of the middle names especially not Rose it's a bit like the "Mae" of our time as far as middle names go.

crocoldile · 11/03/2013 17:04

My dd middle name is Vivienne, named after her much loved auntie!
I love it,such a beautiful name, and I love your choice of Vivienne Rose.
Maybe alternatives Vivienne Grace
Vivienne May
Vivienne Faith
Vivienne Ruth
Vivienne Jane

Vivien = Vi-vi-UN. Sounds like a not very pleasant old lady name to me.

Vivienne = Vi-vi-ENNE. Is beautiful, conjours up an image of elegance and a bit French sounding.

If you like older style names then what about Vivienne Martha or Vivienne Emma?

BeeBopDingALing · 11/03/2013 18:40

Or Vivienne Hannah.

TwinTum · 11/03/2013 18:42

i know a baby vivienne who gets vivi which is a cute nn

HumpheadWrasse · 11/03/2013 20:23

Thanks all. I'm really torn between the spellings - I like Vivienne for the simplicity but Vivienne seems to be the more accepted spelling and maybe a bit more modern? I really like the suggestions of Emma or Hannah for a middle name and Vivi as a nickname, thanks for these.

Vivien for the simplicity - even my phone autocorrects it to Vivienne which might say something !

Do NOT do the initials VD!

WormCanner · 11/03/2013 21:43

Vivienne is just the French spelling.

And Vivien isn't pronounced Vi-vi-UN. The stress is at the beginning, so it's VIV-ee-un. The ending is somewhat run together, almost VIV-yun, so not a harsh sound at all.

weasle · 11/03/2013 21:47

Vivien.
Would have used this ourselves after a family member but have 3 ds!
Lovely name.

BeeBopDingALing · 11/03/2013 21:47

Was just highlighting the sound not the stress. My Gran had a friend called Vivien and her name was said with the un sound at the end.

HumpheadWrasse · 11/03/2013 22:17

Aha, it has just clicked why Vivien/ne Dulcie wouldn't be a good set of initials. This is exactly why it's a good idea to run things past the MN collective!

In my head, both spellings are pronounced the same, with a bit more emphasis on the Viv.

There's also the spelling Vivian, which I think used to be the masculine spelling but is now used for both genders. Vivian is rare as a man's name these days.
