What do you think of Mikey Edward and Mia Rose?

Not sure if Edward sounds too traditional with Mikey but it is my fil's middle name and would like to use it as his first name definitely doesn't fit.

All good except mikey. It's dreadful

badtime · 09/03/2013 16:08

I would say rather that you should use Micah or Michael rather than Mikey. Imagine when your lovely baby boy is 35 years old. Give him a real name ffs.

Mia Rose is fine.

raisah · 09/03/2013 16:10

How about Michael Edward for the bc & then shorten Michael to Mikey for every day use. Edward does go beautifully with Michael.

Hate calling a child a name and then shortening it to another one so Michael is out. What's wrong with Mikey??

I agree that you should use Michael as his full name, just to give him some choice of nicknames when older. Plus having a full name to shout is useful when he's climbing on the furniture/legging it across the park. My older 2 know that they're in trouble when I use their full names.

DS2 was almost Michael, shortened to Mikey. Changed our minds when we realised that, with DS1 being Nicholas, we could have ended up with a Nick and Mick.

It's naff and people will snigger at it

NotADragonOfSoup · 09/03/2013 16:21

Mikey is awful.

CPtart · 09/03/2013 16:22

Edward is a lovely name, Michael too is fine. Mikey?........no.

Mia Rose, extremely dull. Ten a penny.

NotADragonOfSoup · 09/03/2013 16:22

Please remember you are naming a person not a baby or child or a pet

Still18atheart · 09/03/2013 16:24

Lovely apart from Mikey Micheal would be much better

And as much as I like the name, Mia is in the '20 pegs at nursery will have the same name' category imo

I agree that Michael on the bc is a good idea, he might just want to be Mick or Mike when he is older. Mia Rose is nice :)

AndWhenYouGetThere · 09/03/2013 18:13

I agree Michael Edward gives him far more options as an adult.
Mia Rose is sweet and lovely.

GlaikitFizzog · 09/03/2013 18:16

If you call him mikey, I can guarantee by the time he is at secondary/university, he'll be known as mike!

GlaikitFizzog · 09/03/2013 18:18

And, sorry to keep coming back, people will assume his name is Michael and mikey is just a NN.

INeverSaidThat · 09/03/2013 19:03

I don't like Mikey and I particularly don't like it with Edward (if you are intending to use them as one name IYSWIM). I also don't like Mia Rose either, Mia on its own is ok though.

Sorry, (you did ask Sad )

I do believe that you should choose whatever name you want though Smile

INeverSaidThat · 09/03/2013 19:04

My DS has an 18 year old friend who is called Mikey and doesn't shorten it to mike.

BeeBopDingALing · 09/03/2013 19:33

Mikey is a nn, he needs a proper name for when he's just not a baby/cute little kid but an adult. I would put Michael on the bc then it at least gives him options.

I like Mia, always reminds me of Pulp Fiction. Rose as a middle name is a bit boring done to death .

chipmonkey · 09/03/2013 19:44

Mia Rose is beautiful.

And, just to be the voice of dissent, I met a perfectly lovely Mikey who was six years old and a lovely, lovely little chap. Very clever and sweet.

iloveshortshorts · 09/03/2013 19:44

I know two adult Mikeys and no one shortens their name.

Also know a baby Mia Rose and shes lovely but i think Rose as a middle name has been done to death

chipmonkey · 09/03/2013 19:45

Oh and I have a Tom who is NOT Thomas. I just didn't ever want him to be called Thomas so I didn't call him that.

OkayHazel · 09/03/2013 19:47

If a man introduced himself to me as Mikey in a bar, I'd be turned off. Michael, or if you must, Mike. Not Mikey. Eurgh.
