Elizabeth?

DC2 is due in a couple of weeks. I love the name Elizabeth and would probably go with middle name of Rose (I know this is the latest equivalent of Louise but I like it)

However, is Elizabeth going to get really popular? They seem to be popping up everywhere, or that may be because I am more aware of it. I'm also worried that if William and Catherine have a girl, Elizabeth might be on the cards for them which would mean mega popularity.

My DS has a normal traditional name (maybe considered boring!) that isnt that common anymore. I like the fact that we don't come across it too often and he's the only one at nursery etc. Would like a similar name for Dc2.

Other possible choice are Josephine or Charlotte.

What do you think? (or other suggestions)

Elizabeth's great. It's our DD's middle name (we'd have used it as her first name, but a friend took it first!). Classic and with a range of nicknames if needed.

Josephine's... well. Charlotte's really commonplace.

Henrietta
Georgiana
Lydia
Catherine

Elizabeth is classic and versatile. It will survive being hugely popular (if that happens) very well, so I would go for it. How about Josephine as the middle name?

We've recently discovered that #4 is a girl and Elisabeth is on our 'final five' list. The 's' spelling is how it features in my family; my great-grandmother was Elisabeth and it's my mum's middle name.

To be honest, I don't think you need to be too worried about the whole William and Catherine thing, because if they do have a girl and name it Elizabeth, I can't see it becoming much more popular. After all, it's fairly popular now, because it's such a versatile name. If anything, I think if they used it, it might put more people off it.

I know we haven't been given an exact due date for Royal Bump, but if Catherine is as far along as they say, then I'm due around the same time. Even then, if they opt for Elizabeth, it wouldn't stop me using Elisabeth (if that is indeed our chosen name).

I do like Josephine as well, very much so, but my sister has "dibs" on that so I can't use it.

greenandcabbagelooking · 06/03/2013 12:35

I love Elizabeth.

I'm slightly biased though, it's my name! Although I'm usually Liz or Lizzie. Never Lizzy or Beth though.

Startail · 06/03/2013 12:38

Elizabeth is lovely, I only know one young one, who must be 5 or 6.

Because you can be Lizzy, Eliza or Beth it's never going to matter if it does become popular.

Still18atheart · 06/03/2013 12:40

Love elizabeth and all the shortened versions

Josephine is lovely too

AmazingBouncingFerret · 06/03/2013 12:41

It is lovely but i'm biased as i have an Elizabeth. She is Lizzy and never Liz. Grin

JimbosJetSet · 06/03/2013 12:47

Lovely name. Victoria, Jennifer and Caroline are similar names to me (classic long names that can be shortened).

lakeofshiningwaters · 06/03/2013 12:48

I love Elizabeth. My dd might've been one, but she looked more like the other name we'd picked.

I think even if it is popular, there are so many nns that you can still be individual. We would've used the nn Bess btw.

Jojobump1986 · 06/03/2013 12:55

DS2 would've been Elisabeth, nn Lissy, if he'd been a girl! In my family we have: Liz, Lilli, Beth & Betty as shortenings. Beautiful, classic name. Smile

matilda101 · 06/03/2013 12:58

Our dd is registered as Elizabeth but she only ever gets called Bessie!

monkeynumberthree · 06/03/2013 13:05

We have an Elizabeth Rose Grin I think it is a beautiful name, although clearly I'm biased. I haven't come across any other Elizabeths yet (DD is 4), although we know an Elspeth, an Eliza and an Elsie. Lovely classic name and so many sweet nns.

Idratherbeknitting · 06/03/2013 13:06

I have an Elizabeth Rose!

It's a super name, she's chosen to call herself Lizzie, but I left it up to her. We know two or three others (large school), and they all go by other shortenings.

I thought, beautiful, classic, and traditional. It suits my beautiful, traditional DD!

DogsDontDoBallet · 06/03/2013 13:17

Ooh lots of replies, thank you. All positive too which is good.
I think I am pretty set on it but will probably have Josephine as my other option and decide once she arrives. I probably should have a back up boys name too just in case the scan was wrong!

I love Elizabeth/Elisabeth. I have an Elspeth myself.

I also love Josephine. Charlotte is pretty and not all that common these days.

Thewhingingdefective · 06/03/2013 13:28

I know of two Elizabeths - one goes by Liz, the other is Libby.

happynappies · 06/03/2013 19:17

Aw, I've got an Elizabeth, and a Charlotte. Neither seem that commonplace, have met Eliza's and Lottie's though... Am biased but I love both. Also have a Sarah Elsie Rose, so have used your middle name choice too. Great minds think alike!

mewkins · 12/03/2013 23:12

I have one too and know of one other (wjo goes by a different nn anyway). I still love it and it's a family name.

My money is on Frances for a royal baby girl!

Princesspond · 12/03/2013 23:23

I love Elizabeth too Smile my DD has it as a middle name with an 's'. Round here it's not that popular, the variations are more popular.

Signet2012 · 12/03/2013 23:37

I have an Elizabeth, 6 months old.

We call her Lillibut Blush

Leaving official nick Nams until she can pick her self.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 12/03/2013 23:44

Bizarrely I have an Elizabeth and a Rose. Smile

Usually known as Lizzie and Rosie, which unfortunately sound too much alike to me but too late now!

OkayHazel · 13/03/2013 02:29

I love Elizabeth, it's my aunt's name. But I hate Liz and Lizzie so would never touch it.

CitrusyOne · 13/03/2013 02:41

Yep, I've got an Elizabeth Rose who we call Lizzie, Betty or Lillibut. I'm sure she'll grow to love/hate one or more of those nicknames but the name is versatile enough that she can choose her own as she gets older.

NowPlayingZone · 13/03/2013 13:21

Sorry, but IMO Elizabeth Rose is a bit yawn.

Love, love, love Josephine.
