Girl's Names....narrowed down to four...what do you think?

Hiya, first post... am due April and we are (finally) having a girl - 3 years and 8 months of trying later.... :)

I suppose we tend to favour more vintagey names than anything too trendy, although I love pretty, girly names. Popularity isn't much of an issue as we live in the Channel Islands and the name trends seem to be somewhat different here...Opinions on the following would be great:

Isobel Alice
Matilda Lucy
Elowen May
Polly Jane

Our surname is one syllable, begins with G and is the colour of concrete :)

I adore Elowen.

I know loads of Isobels/Isabellas and Matildas, so personally would avoid those names. They're pretty, but they've been done to death.

Not keen on Polly myself, I'm not keen on -y/-ie/ee endings. Most of them are just a bit too cutsey and there's just so many other name. Round here every other child's name seems to end with the 'ee' sound (Particularly when you add in all the Izzys and the Immys etc).

Elowen is beautiful, feminine, different yet not overly cutsey.

I love all your name ideas. Matilda or Polly edge it for me.

To add a little more encouragement on the future baby front - I had DD1 at 35 after nearly 4 years trying, the other 2 DDs followed very swiftly!

Isobel Alice is lovely IMO.

Elowen is really rather lovely. Would you consider 'Alana' or 'Arabel' as a middle name with it?

I wouldn't mind the PJ moniker, pajamas are pretty harmless things really. But I certainly wouldn't call her Belinda Jane... :)

Well you guys have been no help at all, because there has been no particular liking toward one name.... useless the lot of you :)

I think Elowen is my favourite, I'm just a bit worried about people asking what she is called, me saying it and then them going ''Eh?'' Because it is an uncommon name... and most wont have heard of it. I also am not keen on the ubiquitous shortening of El or Ellie, although I wouldn't shorten it at all. OH thinks we could shorten it to Lola if we were desperate to shorten it, but I think the name is so pretty I would want to say it aloud every day.

I might incorporate Elowen Isobel and then have the two favourites together, but not sure how that 'goes'...

Elowen Alice is lovely. So pretty and unusual.

I have a Francesca (dh's choice). I was unsure as I hate the nn Fran/Franny. I wanted Estelle (now her middle name).

Nobody has ever called her Fran, though she has chosen Frankie as her nn and all her friends and teachers call her this.
My point is that ime shortening names doesn't happen unless you want it to, most people will call her what you tell them she is called. Unless, of course, she decides she wants to be called Ellie!

Polly Jane sounds the prettiest to me.

All lovely but Matilda& Polly are my favorite.

I'm biased but I have a beautiful Matilda. People are always commenting on how lovely her name is!

Never heard it before but clear winner here for me is Elowen.

Can I mix them and vote for: Matilda Alice.

Love Matilda and Isobel and I think they go nicely with your surname. Also like Lucy and Alice.
Elowen is nice but I have seen so many Ellies and Ellas. That was one reason we discounted Elena which we both really liked. Anwen / Arwen are similar though.
Do first and middle names have to 'go' I am not sure how much you actually say a child's full name?

I prefer Isobel Alice :)

UPDATE

Our gorgeous Elowen Isobel Alice (CONCRETE) was born by EMCS on Tuesday at 34.4 weeks and weighing 4lbs 11oz....she is tiny, but perfect and doing really well. Perfect lungs, perfect heart. Just a bit of languo which she is shedding (hope that didnt make her sound like a monkey!) Midwives have been very reassuring (apparently anything over 37 weeks is ''full term'' so shes just a couple of weeks shy of that).

Oh! Was just reading through these names for the first time, and then got to your update - what a lovely surprise!
Hope little Elowen is home soon (and don't worry, the hair rubs off after a while - our DS2 looked like a werewolf for a few weeks!)
