So we're 90% sure that our son will be jack after dh's grandad (39+3 so waiting to meet him any day!!)

I'm now focused on a good middle name so if there is another jack at school we can use his initials. My favourite initials are jb, jc, jd and jt giving names of:

Jack Benjamin
Jack Cameron
Jack Dexter
Jack Thomas

Please could I ask what do you think of the initials and names? Any other suggestions welcomed!!

You could be in labour as we type! Smile

JC makes me think of Jesus Christ but that wouldn't put me off using those.

JD the name combo that comes to my mind is Jack Daniel(s).

Of the suggested names I personally like Jack Dexter best then Jack Thomas.

They all sound a good fit.

Was thinking Jack Coltrane I have no idea where that came from.

mayanna123 · 30/01/2013 10:28

JC sounds like a girls name, Jaycee, as does JD, Jaydee. If you're worried about popularity why don't you use Jack as middle name and give him a cool first name?

mummyplonk · 30/01/2013 10:30

Jack Dexter is v cool.

Agree about using Jack as middle name - there are lots and lots of Jacks out there already (wasn't it THE most popular boys name for a number of years..?).

How about Dexter Jack - I like that.

MikeLitoris · 30/01/2013 10:41

Where is jack popular. I have a 12yo jack and have only ever met one other.

Wheny dc have been in school with children that have the same names they are normally known as their name and first letter of surname.

So jack jones would be be jack j.etc

My jack has two middle names so his initials are JSA. Job seekers allowance Grin

BeanstalkandBump · 30/01/2013 11:58

We have a Jack. Wouldn't worry about its popularity unless you already have lots in the family/friends etc.
I know a million boys named: Sam, Noah, Finley, Harry, Henry and Alfie yet only one other Jack.
It popular because its great Grin
Agree with JD mad Jack Daniels and wouldn't have used Jack C myself. Like JT though so maybe:
Jack Toby
Jack Tristan
Jack Thomas I like too but think I like Toby best

SirBoobAlot · 30/01/2013 12:07

Jack is still the most popular name in the country, isn't it?

I wouldn't use anything JC or JD. Jack Benjamin or Jack Thomas from your list in that case.

FWIW we chose the name we liked, and then used family names as middle names, including my Granddad's name.

shoobidoo · 30/01/2013 13:18

I thought it had been overtaken by Oliver last year...? But seem to remember it was THE most popular name for a number of consecutive years, with about 8000 boys per year named Jack....in other words there ARE a lot of little Jacks around!

Perhaps also consider how common your surname is? If not, then he might be ok using his full name to identify himself but if he is Jack Smith, Jack Jones or similar he may well have to share his name with many others.... depending on what line of work he works in, it can be helpful to be found easily (e.g. online etc).

hugahuddy · 31/01/2013 08:31

Thank you all, we've done the circle of trying to pick a first name we prefer and can't agree on one!

Our surname begins with h so jack h sounds a bit naff I think!!

I think dh prefers jack Thomas and i prefer jack dexter but we both prefer the initials jb but benjamin doesn't grab us! Will be a relief when we've decided, has been many a night with baby name websites and furrowed brows! It took us months to name our dog so shouldn't be surprised Grin

39+4 now, still no sign!

My DS is called jack and I haven't met another yet don't worry if it's popular if you like it go for it.

emmyloo2 · 31/01/2013 08:52

Does Jack Thomas not sound like John Thomas or am I the only one who thinks that?

Jack Dexter is good but I much prefer Dexter as a first name than Jack. I know a lot of little Jacks but it is a nice name, just very popular. What about John with the nickname Jack?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 31/01/2013 11:24

emmylou2 It did cross my mind but only fleetingly! If OP's DH prefers it, probably just us then!

Thinks about names starting with B that go nicely after Jack - but not Benjamin:

Jack Bradley
Jack Brett
Jack Bailey

googlyeyes · 31/01/2013 13:16

I'm another one wondering where all the Jacks are hiding. Have been a parent for nearly 9 years now and have never met one!

pigletpower · 31/01/2013 22:42

We have a Dexter Miles.Cool name.Jack is so meh how many other Jacks do think there will be in his class? There are three in my sons yr3 class.

amck5700 · 31/01/2013 23:25

Personally I like JJ - so Jack James or Jack Joseph.

If you like JB - then what about Jack Bennett or Jack Brady

JG is also quite good - Jack Gregory?

JK - Jack Kerr?

JP - Jack Patrick?

hugahuddy · 01/02/2013 19:37

Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated Thanks

Will have a think about jj, that does sound cute!! Also still liking dexter. It's a good job we have 6 more weeks to decide once he arrives Smile
