Ted or Hector?

We are expecting DC3 shortly, sex is a surprise but I seem to be progressing better with boys names. Interested to know which is generally preferred - Ted (wouldn't be an Edward) or Hector? Also any ideas for middle names would be gratefully received - surname is 2 syllables & begins with K.

The meaning of Hector would put me off: to hector is to bully/to torment and a hector is a bully/tormentor. Not a great association for a boy/man imo.

Ted is cute but I would call him Theodore or Edward.

I knew someone called Hector who hated his name - he was teased relentlessly about it. I probably wouldn't mind it otherwise, but his experience would stop me from using it.

Well, when I hear hector I think of the verb 'to hector'. I don't when I hear harry. Personally I think there are so many names with nicer/neutral meanings that I wouldn't inflict Hector on my son.

And I can't see anything teaseworthy about Noah, Jonty, Monty, Hugo or Albie. OK, Kenzo is more interesting but doesn't have a 'negative' meaning as Hector has.

I don't know any primary aged children who would know 'hector' as meaning 'to bully.'

DH has just vetoed Hector so looks like that's the end of that one. I also googled it with our surname & it came up with someone who was done for murder in another country, which has kind of taken the shine off it for me.

Re Ted - Edward is too similar to my name. If this baby is a boy, it would be our 3rd DS so seems strange to associate no 3 so closely with me name wise, also doesn't really go that well with our boys' names. DH doesn't like Theodore so could only really be Ted on it's own. Sigh - think I'm back to drawing board!

Ted is lovely! Give him a really long middle name.

I love Ted/Teddy/Theo. Hector I'm not so keen on but perhaps that's because my friend's dog is called Hector - but if it ends up being your preferred choice, go for it!
