I wouldn't go for Murren unless you don't mind the assumption that it's a place name. It's a Swiss alpine village, where downhill skiing originated as a sport and which holds the Inferno race.

Merran or merryn?

Like Mirren and Murren. Also Mirin (the original saints name I think).
Getting more popular but people outside of Scotland won't have heard of it much ime. Very elegant.

Not keen on Mirran/Murran or any 'y' spellings but not sure why.

I really like it but be prepared for all the comments about supporting a certain Scottish football team!

Like Mirren. Someone in the town called their baby girl that over Xmas (I read the baby announcements for name ideas Blush )

I know a Muireann (pronounced Merrin) but people are never sure how it's pronounced.

Where I live (Spanish Basque Country) Miren is a v popular name and I love it. In the Spamish accent it's even prettier, sort of 'mee..rrrren' with the rolling r and the e pronounced fully and not just as a schwa iykwim. Have been toying with it as a name for currently cooking do but not sure how it would be pronounced in English.

My dc have 2 friends called Muirean and we know a Mirren. The Gaelic spelling of the (originally male) name is Meadhran.

If you live in the West of Scotland you'll know it's a football team in Paisley!

I think it's pretty but would be put off using it as it is in my mind a boys name!

I saw someone suggested Morven. What about Morna? (means 'beloved' in Gaelic).

My personal view is that it can be a bit "schemey" depending on where you are and I wouldn't pick it for that reason.

Morven is nicer as is Morna as suggested or Lorna maybe

Really amck? I wouldn't have thought that, interesting! I thought it was quite posh (I'm not a ned, honest!)

forget, maybe it is just me then, I only know two and they are both rougher families......and I'm not being posh-est here :o I was brought up in a really rough area in a similar type family - well maybe working class back then as opposed to long term benefit class. Bethany is a name that seems to be liked on here too and it has the same vibe for me, as I say, just based on my local experience.

Genuinely interesting though, because it shows you how different the sensibilities are. I agree on Bethany Grin
