Is Elizabeth the new 'May/Mae' of middle names?!

In hospital just met 2 other ladies who had little girls with middle name Elizabeth- which is the middle name we've chosen for our soon to arrive dd.
Is this a really popular middle name? Might need to rethink if it's really common. Not that there's anything wrong with really common but didn't want something in top 20 and think this must be creeping up the charts now
Thanks

I would still use it, if it's what you like. It's a classic name and goes well with lots of others, so I think it will always be a popular choice. The fact we're just out of a jubilee year may also have some bearing Wink.

What difference does it make if a middle name is really popular?

ha!
we chose the name Elizabeth Grace for a girl when I was pregnant 1st time 12 years ago - but had 5 boys in a row!!!!

in April we had a girl, named her Elizabeth Grace and most people assume it's do to with the Queen/diamond jubilee grrrrrrrrr!

In a few years no one will associate her name with that, so I d'n't care.
it stood the test of time, both for us and traditionally, so I'm happy with it - and we call her Liza Baba anyway!

so I'm biased of course, but I'd say go for it!Smile

Recently I've heard a few people have named their daughters something Elizabeth too. It must be the new thing. Like loads of people my age are something Louise, including me! Smile I understand, I went for unusual and not in the charts names for my daughter. It's nice to have something individual as you know you're daughter will be. But if you love it then don't drop it, it's a middle name after all.

Although bare in mind that what's unusual and unique today may not be tomorrow. So it may not be wise to avoid names on popularity alone. Wink

It's recycling an old trend, I'm early 40's and my middle name is Elizabeth too.

My sister and I both gave our daughters (hers nearly 4, mine a newborn) 'Elizabeth' as one of their middle names. In our case it was after our beloved late grandmother.

My middle name is common - Louise I can't say it has scarred me for life or damaged my career prospects Wink and DD1 has the middle name Elizabeth. Since I couldn't tell you what any of her friends' middle names are I would suggest you are seriously over-thinking this.

As long as it doesn't clash with the first name or contribute to initials spelling out a rude word then just go for it!

Wishfulmakeupping · 18/01/2013 10:39

See my middle name is also Louise (was it a rule in the 80's?!) and have liked it when people have had less popular but don't know if it puts me off altogether esp as OH loves elizabeth and its literally the only classic name he likes

viggle "Since I couldn't tell you what any of her friends' middle names" - I have trouble remembering the FIRST names of friends and their parents' Grin.
