so me and dh have spend the last 6 months arguing about boys names and this is pretty much the only one on his list of utterly sh*t names that I sort of think is ok.

thoughts or suggestions? we have an Honor so looking for something not overly off the wall.

I love Ned, prefer Jed though.

Pleasenomorepeppa · 12/01/2013 06:50

Love it!

Babylonmoo · 12/01/2013 06:51

It might not matter to you but be aware that in Scotland the word ned is used like the word chav.

Numberlock · 12/01/2013 07:03

Yep reminds me of the film Neds. First thought I had was Chav, sorry.

I have a cousin with a Ned, when my mum heard it she said 'it's a donkey's name'. I was Confused, but she told me to check with my dad/other family members and apparently, yes Ned is a donkey's name in the same way Rover is a dog's name.

I think it comes from this.

How about Edward?

Ham69 · 12/01/2013 08:49

When I was pregnant with DS, this was the only name I liked for a boy. I called the bump this name up until the last few weeks of pregnancy. I googled it just to check it didn't bring up any negative connotations and was gutted to see that it was even in the Oxford dictionary as a very derogatory meaning for someone in Scotland. It can stand for 'Non Edicated Delinquant'. Shame cos I love the name. I guess it's only widely known in Scotland, but I personally didn't want to risk it. Still love the name though.

Moominsarehippos · 12/01/2013 08:53

I had a Ladybird book about Ned the Donkey. Ned is thug/chav in Scotland.

FaceLikeAPickledOnion · 12/01/2013 08:56

Ned Flanders, The Simpsons.

MyNewVenture · 12/01/2013 09:00

Love it! I would use Edward and alternate between Ned and Ed or Eddie. I think Ned is lovely for a child especially.

Doilooklikeatourist · 12/01/2013 09:17

I thought Ned was a nickname for Edward
A male donkey is a Ned , female a Jenny ( I might be wrong though )

RoomForASmallOne · 12/01/2013 09:22

I have one Smile

Lovely name.

Bearandcub · 12/01/2013 09:28

I think it's great.

Yfronts · 13/01/2013 21:34

Ned is fab. Jed also.

surroundedbyblondes · 13/01/2013 21:36

Love it!

serin · 13/01/2013 23:09

My little dog is Ned because he is a bit of a hooligan at times.

AgathaPinchBottom · 13/01/2013 23:15

Love Ned - it's gorgeous. I know a lovely Ned in his twenties - it really suits him.

aufaniae · 14/01/2013 20:38

Doesn't Ned stand for Non-Educated-Delinguent in Scotland?

aufaniae · 14/01/2013 20:39

*Delinquent!

Moominsarehippos · 15/01/2013 17:10

Yes! Still used these days.
