We have made a mistake with DDs name. She is now 12 months old and someone pointed out - in a polite way - that the nn of her name sounds a bit silly with our surname - think, Lily White or Tilly Todd. As we use her nn all the time, this is really bothering me.

I don't really want to say what DDs name is but it's one that lends itself to being shortened so we couldn't just stick to the full version and even if we did - others wouldn't.

This is really worrying me. I'm particularly worried about teasing at school and also just the idea that we've given DD a less than perfect name which we thought we had thought through fully.

I don't know what I'm asking - maybe just to see if anyone else has found themselves in a similar postion. Has anyone registered their DCs name and then realised, straight away or later on, that it didn't quite go with their surname but hadn't previously noticed. Thank you

If its like the examples and not rude or ridiculous just a bit rhymey I'd leave it. Tbh I would anyway at 12 months she will know her name. Also she may change her surname when married so it may not always be her name.

My friend 'Leah' turned out to be a Jacqueline on her birth certificate but was always known as Leah throughout school, work etc

I wouldn't worry about it....with so many names around from all over the world kids these days will be used to hearing different names. Speaking as a teacher if a child is going to be teased they will be teased regardless of what their name is.
