We have made a mistake with DDs name. She is now 12 months old and someone pointed out - in a polite way - that the nn of her name sounds a bit silly with our surname - think, Lily White or Tilly Todd. As we use her nn all the time, this is really bothering me.

I don't really want to say what DDs name is but it's one that lends itself to being shortened so we couldn't just stick to the full version and even if we did - others wouldn't.

This is really worrying me. I'm particularly worried about teasing at school and also just the idea that we've given DD a less than perfect name which we thought we had thought through fully.

I don't know what I'm asking - maybe just to see if anyone else has found themselves in a similar postion. Has anyone registered their DCs name and then realised, straight away or later on, that it didn't quite go with their surname but hadn't previously noticed. Thank you

Oh just change it by deed poll. It's really simple to do this.
We changed spelling of DS1 name. But when he was already at school so slightly more hassle, but only marginally as one extra place to give a copy of certificate to.
We had to get a new passport for him as well so had that extra cost too.
Give certificate to your doctor as well and they will update NHS records.

not quite the same as your situation but im goin thru similar thing over my ds name. i feel his name is not quite 'right' but its not as simple as someone just saying u can just change their name because uve got to know the child by that particular name so to change it just wouldnt feel right & could make matters worse i feel.
