James with middle name John?

I really like the name James and we are going to have the middle name John to honour my DH father-in-law who died recently. DH does not want John as first name. Do you think it sounds ok?

Our good friends (not in UK) have a James John and then two syllable surname. I always thought he might get shortened to JJ but doesn't seem to. He is only known as James and very rarely does middle name get referred to.

In other words I have seen it work so yes I think it sounds fine.

Thankyou for your reply, our surname is also 2 syllable. I wouldnt shorten it to JJ. Just got to convince DH now! Smile

You could register him as John James, but called him James in everyday life?

And I think jack is short for John too (I was told this but not sure how you shorten a one syllable name for another one syllable name)

But James John is a lovely name. More so because it has meaning.

I have a James Jonathan (know as Jon). A few people did shorten it to JJ for a while, but they've stopped now as DS wouldn't know who they were talking to! I like the sound of it and DS loves saying his full name out loud (he's 2.7) so it's all good here.

James John is fine, and the initials JJ are quite cool too, even if no one ends up calling him JJ.

Isn't your DH's father-in-law your dad?
