Kitiana as a full name for kitty?? Opinions please:))

Hi, this is my first posting on mums net. I'm 30 wks pregnant with dc5. We have decided on a boys name but really struggling with girls names. I love
Kitty
Honey
Bella
Willow
I have 4 sons so may well use all of above if dc5 turns out to be a girl!!
Please give me your opinions. I love the name Kitty & was thinking of kitiana to go on birth certificate??

Love Kitty but not Kitiana, sounds like spoilt cat owned by Russian billionaires. Honey is gorgeous, love Bella too, not really keen on Willow or Indiana, like Ava but think Anya's a much prettier and unusual without being ridiculous option.

I really don't understand this obsession on MN for having to have a 'full' name on the birth certificate. If you want to call your DD kitty, then just call her kitty. So what if she is a barrister called kitty? It will be her presence, gravitas and skill that influences people's opinions, not her name. Anyway - there's nothing wrong with kitty. It's it like its Apple or Peaches or Fifi, etc.

I immediately thought of Kitiara from the Dragonlance books too (I think she was Kit for short), which I actually think is a fab name, though a bit 'made-up' for some tastes.

I don't really like the look/sound of Kitiana, it's a bit awkward, but Kitty is lovely. I would go for Katherine or Katarina if you wanted a 'long' version.

I don't think it's that bad, or at least certainly not as bad as some are saying, but then I would rather gauge at my eyes than use a name like Katherine/Christine etc.

Personally I like Kitty just on its own. I also really like Willow and have known a couple, neither of which were tall and willowy and it never entered my mind that they should be. I do like Indiana but I tend to think of it as more a boys name and India the feminin version.

Honey is a bit cheesy and I would have used Bella a few years ago but it does seem to have become so so popular.

Kitty would be my favourite from your list. Though I am biased as my DD is a Kitty. Personally, I would have a longer name on the bc, because it is very girlie and cutsey and your DD may feel that she outgrows her name. My 6 year old has already said she thinks Kitty is a bit babyish and wants to go back to being a Katherine when she goes up to 'big' (secondary) school. I also know of a Nikita who is known as Kitty. I think this is a good alternative.

Otherwise I like Ava from your list and Bella, although I would have it as a shortened version of something else like Isabella, Arabella or Annabelle/a.

People sometimes seem to name babies as if they're always going to be babies. Honey is an endearment rather than a name. Just imagine if she grows up to be a judge... A name should be usable by an adult without diminishing their dignity, and though calling a child Honey isn't as bad as Princess, it's getting on that way!

I don't like made up names, and place names are a bore. People will always wanting to know why she's called Indiana, and the only reason being that her mum liked it is a bit of a lame answer... Kitty is a lovely name for a little girl, but perhaps not v dignified for a police officer or a Nobel Prize winner, for example. She may grow up to be a very formal person. I'd name her Katherine and shorten it.

And, rightly or wrongly, certain names can lead others to make assumptions. What do you think a girl called Tiffannee or Chellsee is going to be like? I know there was a thread on a teaching site about which names made teachers fear the worst. Made up spellings were one of the worst.

Maybe I worry too much, but I made sure my own had names that were cute shortened but would sound serious if need be.

Personal pref would be Katherine nn Kitty but what about Kitty-Anna? Preferable to Kittiana.

Yes - at the school I currently teach at there are a lot of Emilys and Harriets etc. I have also worked at schools where there are lots of Kaylees, Danielles etc. It is mainly a middle class/working class split so is not an issue but is just the kind of names that the different tribes use!

I do think that you we should think about how names are perceived by others (even though I know that it should not matter) - your child is saddled with it for a long time!

Kitiana and Indiana are both a bit silly.

Honey -- have you ever heard of Honey Boo Boo? Please don't even think of it as a MN. It's dreadful.

Bella -- Twilight series so I would avoid. Has a link to vampires now.
Isabella, Isobel or Annabel are nice. Isobel/Isabelle/Isabella are very popular (but lovely names).

Ava nice though it is popular sometimes names are popular because they really are nice.
Willow -- nice; I think I would choose this one.

Catriona is a really good suggestion (consider your preferred pronunciation though, a Scottish colleague once bemoaned people 'getting it wrong' by emphasising the O, whereas she said the 'ri' should carry the emphasis, with the o an incidental u sound). I do love Christabel, which gives you Kit and Belle!

Interesting that people see Kitty as a childish name. I can see that, with the kitty-cat connotation (oh, maybe a reason to avoid Catriona?) but, in real life, the few adult Kitty's I've met have been rather impressive, personally and professionally and it hasn't detracted at all. In fact, I hear it as quite a cool, upmarket nn.

beginningtolooklikexmas I'm a teacher and always ask what pupils want to be called but my Dd has always been called by long name by most teachers. In fact on first day at upper school she was singled out in assembly for having the mist unusual name head had ever heard! Astonishing lack of insight I felt especially as we always write ' known as xxxxx' on all school forms. She was wretched as she is very shy.

Ps.... I do actually adore the name Tallulah but I think my DH would divorce me. What are your opinions on Tallulah please?
