Immediate reactions to Arthur

I really like it and think it's a good, solid, masculine name but not sure if I'm brave enough to use it as I'm sure some people will think it's a really odd choice. I'd love to know your immediate and honest first reactions to it. I know I shouldn't be bothered by what other people think but that's how I am...obviously, or I wouldn't be asking for your opinions.

I would use it but it would cause untold issues in my family because it was my paternal grandfathers name. Which isn't the only reason I like it. But I'd have to honour every other man in my family if I ever used it.

My DS is called Arthur. He is nearly 2 now.

We first announced his name there was genuine shock including my DM refusing to call him Arthur and instead calling him the baby!

I still love it and also like the fact there is no abbreviation.

No abbreviation, preggers? Art and Artie are both derivatives of Arthur (as is the less common 'Thor'!)

Great! But I had a lovely Arthur in my family so that probably influences my feelings!

It was my GF name and my late uncles and now I have a year old cousin called Arthur. It really suits him, he is one of those 'Winston Churchill' type babies.

I like it and it's definitely become more popular recently. One of David Cameron's children is called Arthur. And I wonder if Wills & Kate have a son if they'll choose it? (Who could resist the temptation of a future King Arthur?? Especially with Merlin being on the telly and all that!)

I loved it until I taught a horrible one. Now it reminds me of him! But it is a lovely, strong name.

There is a theory that the king arthur character was actually a nickname, 'arthur' means the bear in some old welsh dialect. That's me done on random fact of the day!

To be honest I used to think of it as an old grand dad type name, old fashioned etc, but I do know a baby Arthur and have come round to seeing it as a lovely, strong name.

It reminds me of Arthur Darvill, who is hot.
Also, Art is a cool nickname.
I would consider this for a DS2. Really like it.

It's ok, but what would put me off is the knowledge that so many people would pronounce it "Arfur"

My first thought is 'Aaarrrffuuurrr' from On The Buses.

I reckon it's going to be the new Harry soon though as it's starting to become popular again.
