Love Ruari for a boy (Roo-ree) but not sure out goes with surname or if the sounds are too similar

I think it has a lovely ring to it! Any middle names?

peanutMD · 24/12/2012 13:18

Not sure about middle names, nothing in mind Although had thought about John as it was my great-great grandpa's name and I never met him.

I like it. I have a Rory :)

forgetmenots · 24/12/2012 15:36

Like it a lot (both name and full name!) - but I like alliterative names and names with assonance, having grown up with one. Never met a nasty Rory or Ruairidh/Ruairi

KenDoddsDadsDog · 24/12/2012 15:40

I like it too

ZenNudist · 24/12/2012 15:44

It'd be better if you spelt it Rory. Sounds fine, just looks strange on paper. Are you welsh or similar? Expect a lifetime of people thinking he's called Roo-ar-ru-ee.

Yama · 24/12/2012 15:46

I like it. I'm Scottish and when I say it, it has a lovely mellifluous lilt.

Moominsarehippos · 24/12/2012 15:58

I think it sounds like the name of an author or musician. Definately.

peanutMD · 24/12/2012 16:15

I am Scottish (Glasweigan in the Highlands :o)

It will be pronounced Roo-ree.

My family are originally Irish but came to Scotland in the 40's so thought the Irish spelling was quite apt... Not to mention easier fir dyslexic DP.

Our older DS also has an Irish name, Liam but that was entirely coincidental lol

Isn't the Irish spelling Ruairi though?

Yama · 24/12/2012 16:18

Peanut - it is a cracker of a name. Please go for it.

elah11 · 24/12/2012 16:41

Lovely name and I dont agree with the poster who said just call him Rory, thats a different pronunciation (Roar-ree as opposed to Roo-ree) I would spell it either Ruairí or Ruairídh but I am Irish so maybe the Scottish spelling is different?

forgetmenots · 24/12/2012 18:23

Scottish gaelic spelling is traditionally Ruairidh or Ruaraidh elah (though most popular spelling is Ruaridh)

Like the Irish spelling - which I would say is Ruairi - too :)

peanutMD · 25/12/2012 09:24

It is Ruairi Blush

So much for me thinking DP's dyslexia could be an issue.

Boys and girls games are now decided, thank you :o

Well now you have to tell us the girls name!

peanutMD · 25/12/2012 10:48

:o

Well I will either be having a Ruairi John or a Cara Louise.

Merry Christmas btw Xmas Grin
