Yeah or nay and more importantly is it rare

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love it. There is one in my son's room in nursery age 2. It seems to be picking up in popularity.

Snusmumriken · 23/12/2012 13:46

Very nice and rare.

dreamingofsun · 23/12/2012 14:15

lovely name but my husband vetoed as he said it was too poncy (he does come from deprived area though). kids said they would have been bullied at school - so depends where you live

Izzyschangelingisarriving · 23/12/2012 14:21

Wouldn't be bullied here - lots of cleric and Welsh names about.

It seems to be popular in states but not here.

It reminds me of the naughty younger brother in All Creatures Great and Small. (shows age)

He was a bit of a cad and not very bright.

toomuch2young · 23/12/2012 14:24

Love it. Top of my list!

TheOriginalNutcracker · 23/12/2012 14:25

Little lad next door is called Tristan. I don't know any others though.

I like it, and wouldn't say it was poncy at all.

Izzyschangelingisarriving · 23/12/2012 14:30

So I think we have just named our new baby :)

Congratulations Xmas Grin how lovely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/12/2012 14:34

Love it - and congratulations.

And All Creatures one was v v cute.

DowntonSprouts · 23/12/2012 14:36

Ah well. Don't let me put you off then.

It is a very cute name for a cheeky little boy. I did love all creatures great and small anyway.

Congrats.

Izzyschangelingisarriving · 23/12/2012 14:40

That should say Celtic

Thanks everyone I'm just trying it out on him for size.

I wanted to call my son tristan ( hes now 16) but dad said it was too poncy, still wish I hadnt given in

nelly83 · 23/12/2012 17:55

my cousins lad is called Trystan. love it. i have been teaching for 9 years and only ever taught one. he was a gorgeous little boy and not at all 'poncy!' just a normal little down to earth gorgeous little boy. if it suits him-go for it!

mayanna234 · 23/12/2012 22:48

Tristan contains triste = sad in French. That would put me off a little. But I can't see what other children would find teaseworthy..?

copyandpaste · 24/12/2012 03:17

Do not like. And I'd say yeah pretty rare! Whatever floats your boat though!

mayanna234 · 24/12/2012 07:36

I don't think a name can really be 'poncy' because as soon as lots of people start using it, associations quickly change. In other words, a person 'makes' his name, not the other way round.

SuperChristmasScrimper · 24/12/2012 09:08

I know loades! 4 under 2's. maybe it depends on the area.

izzyhasanewchangeling · 24/12/2012 15:52

His name is Trystan - I hope it doesnt suddenly become popular!

lljkk · 24/12/2012 16:12

DS8 name.
It ilicits strong reactions & deep stereotypes, some folk loathe it.
My next DS has the most boring & widespread name imaginable, make of that what you will.

I vaguely know of 2 others same age as DS, and another about 2yo.

catgirl1976geesealaying · 27/12/2012 20:15

My DS is called Tristan Grin

So a thumbs up from me. Mind you, the poor boys middle name is Boris Grin

Tristan seems to be rareish given I have just seen the top 100 baby names for 2012 and it's not on the list

3smellysocks · 01/01/2013 23:42

yay

bananaramma · 02/01/2013 07:29

The 'sad' part would put me of, I'm afraid. Otherwise it is nice and not overused.

monica77798 · 02/01/2013 10:31

I am not a fan of this name. I agree that it does sound a bit poncy. Maybe that will change as it becomes more popular though.

bananaramma · 02/01/2013 12:22

What makes a name 'poncy'?! The fact that it is unusual, the fact that it has two syllables, the fact that it ends in n? I honestly don't get this concept of 'ponciness'..Confused
