Really like Monty (short for Montague) for ds4 to go with siblings George , Thomas and Ollie (Oliver).

Any thoughts? Does it sound like a dogs name????

Any other suggestions?

I like Monty and, in abstract, Montgomery and Montague too... But I just can't imagine anyone being called Montgomery or Montague! I think I'd just go with Monty because I can't see Montgomery/Montague actually being used.

I always thought it was a bit pompous/pretentious but I now know 2 Montys, both aged 2, think both are just called Monty rather than it being short for anything. And it really suits them and I've come round to it as a very sweet name for toddler boys. Still wonder if it might sound a bit pompous when they're adults but I guess that depends on what they end up doing!

I have a toddler called Monty. No Montague or Montgomery - as they just don't do it for me. Just Monty.
It's a great name. And people call dogs anything and everything these days - I know dogs called Oscar, Toby, Ben, Luca, George, Jack, Bobby, Ollie, Nelson, Bella, Betty, Florence.. Totally pointless argument.

I don't know... I enquired about Monty when pg with DS2 and got a resounding "no" on MN. Connotations of the hideous uncle in Withnail and I apparently.

I didn't go for it in the end. But I wouldn't worry about any dog connections - I've never come across a dog called Monty. On the other hand, my neighbour's dog has the same name as me; completely normal, grown woman name, so there you go.

Love it - and know a very charming (9 yo) version. Prefer Montague to Montgomery - later too battle-hardy for me.

(And am a huge Withnail fan, wouldn't put me off)

love it Grin slightly prefer Montague to Montgomery but only just ...goes well with other names as well

MunchkinsMumof2 · 24/01/2013 15:03

Love it! Friend has a gorgeous little boy called Monty.

HoratiaWinwood · 24/01/2013 16:07

I know a newborn Monty. He is lush.

The family is quite posh though. I don't think it is a classless name, unlike the OP's other boys' names.

If he is likely to go to public school and Russell Group, go ahead. If it is more likely to be dump comp then think again.

I love Monty as a name - think it fab - prefer Montgomery to Montague but overall love Monty as Monty & not short for anything. I would try it out with your surname & go for it .............. I think it goes really well withyour other DS names as Monty but not in longer format

4 boys -how fab
