Isaac or Milo

We don't know if baby is a boy or girl. I am pretty set with girls names but am struggling with boys. I think I have narrowed it down to Isaac or Milo. I love Milo but am concerned that it is the name if a Tweenie and also our surname begins with 'M'. I think alliteration names can sound quite good though. What do people think?

Isaac.

KittyFane1 · 20/12/2012 23:44

Not Milo. Tweenie, sorry :(

RightUpMyRue · 21/12/2012 09:11

Jake is also a tweenie. 1000's of boys get named Jake and never get this tweenie crap spouted at them. Bella also.

Milo

BigusBumus · 21/12/2012 09:19

I love Milo! I have a Miles already and he is the sort of long-haired cool skater type. I think Miles and Milo are fabulous names and will make strong, handsome, cool, arty, successful men when older.

Isaac is a bit too ordinary IMO. Go for Milo!!!

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 21/12/2012 10:00

Not Milo because it's a drink.

BigusBumus · 21/12/2012 10:02

Only in Australia tho. Not a well known drink here.

monica77798 · 21/12/2012 10:21

I really like Milo and was inclined to say that, but I think I agree with others that Milo will not be so suitable at a later age. Cute name for a baby / toddler, not so good for an adult. Isaac is probably the other way around, LOL. But don't worry about the Tweenies, I really doubt many people will remember that in 20 years time.

KittyFane1 · 21/12/2012 15:12

Right Jake is a very common name, Milo isn't. There are many people with/ associated with the name Jake but I can think of only one purple Milo.
Or as others have said, Nestle chocolate malted drink.

copyandpaste · 24/12/2012 04:00

Easily Isaac! I agree with others that it's better at all ages and will date less!!

HollyMadison · 24/12/2012 05:03

The drink Milo is massive in Australasia and now moved into SE Asia in a big way. It might take over the world...

I have a Milo and we chose it because it will sound nice on a teen and we know a grown up Milo ( who was named after the character in catch 22) and it really suits him so I think it's actually a good name for all ages really.

We got a few people who mentioned the drink and the tweenies but there are unlikely to be many repeats of it when he is 15 and the drink isn't particularly popular here in the UK unlike Europe - its a lovely noble name :) and suits our DS beautifully. Mind you I have a three week old Caspar so obviously name association doesn't bother me...

Isaac is a lovely strong classic name with a long history used across many cultures. Milo is more of a fad name. Milo is sweet but I feel it has no strength or depth.

I just asked my six year old what she thought and her response was "Milo is a Tweenie" so the Tweenie association is still strong to her but I suspect it won't be to your son's cohort.

rosieposey · 24/12/2012 13:20

Hmm I'm not so sure about Milo being a fad name given that it was an ancient Greek name And there were people named Milo as early as 6th century BC ... I was Going to say that perhaps recently the name has gotten more popular but maybe it hasn't - the English derivative Miles is still more popular. My sister reckons its a dog's name and apparently it's the greek word for apple!

MarianForrester · 24/12/2012 13:21

Milo. Love it and also like alliterative names Smile

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 24/12/2012 13:49

BigusBumus Milo is a household name in NZ (but I know it's from Oz). I guess if you decide to never move to Oz or NZ then it's ok. Otherwise, you might as well call your kid Horlicks or Ovaltine. HollyMadison I know it's pretty well known in Singapore and Hong Kong. You can ask for a Milo, hot or cold, in their equivalent of a coffee shop. Definitely not a name I'd pick because of this.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 24/12/2012 13:51

But then Hong Kong chinese have very whacky English names, so you won't be the only one Grin. I've met a girl called Horney, for example.

CPtart · 24/12/2012 13:53

Isaac definitely. A proper name.

CaHoHoHootz · 24/12/2012 14:52

Milo yum, yum yum.

It is fine for a name though.....

MERLYPUSS · 24/12/2012 15:54

I have a 4yr old Isaac so my vote goes with that. (Milo was on the short list). There is only one Isaac in his school. I have been a cub leader for 22 years and only ever had one other Isaac in my all boy pack. I have taught a few Zachs. Isaac can be shortened to that, also Izzy and Ike.

eachtigertires · 24/12/2012 15:58

Both are nice, I prefer Milo though.

suzydelarosa · 24/12/2012 16:59

Milo.

To me Isaac sounds like I-suck. I remember hearing that Sarah Cox named her son Isaac and many giggled. Think the baby must have taken her DPs last name!
