Just after peoples opinions on this name please!

Too popular? Defintiely don't want him to be one of 3 other Max's throughout his school life!

Max is around the 20th most popular name but there are plenty of Maxwells and Maximilians too who'll go by Max. And probably a few Matts and Matthews too, which can sound similar to Max.

Depends on how popular the name is where you live whether he'll be the only one.

I would say there's a chance he won't be the only Max in his school because it Max is in the top 20 names but it's by no means a dead cert. And, unless it's really popular where you live, he's unlikely to be one of 3. If you pick a name like Max, as opposed to Hubert or Winston or Luciano, it's a chance you take.

For what it's worth, on my postgrad course I'm one of 4 with the same name and, yes, it is annoying but it's not the end of the world.

I know far too many boys named Max. It's a nice name, but ubiquitous.

GinSoakedMu1berryLush · 19/12/2012 11:12

He'll never be the only one. I can see the name's appeal but there are lots of names that have that one syllable snappy feel.

There are LOADS of Maxs out there - has become a little overused imo. Still a nice name but he may likely have to add his initial or other modifier to identify himself.

How about Marcus or Magnus? Less overused and imo much more elegant/more classic.

blibblibs · 19/12/2012 13:58

I have a Max and I don't know another and there isn't one at the school either - We've been lucky, so far Xmas Smile

tassisssss · 19/12/2012 13:58

Love it.

Not particularly popular here.

Ebb · 19/12/2012 13:59

Just because it's a popular name, it doesn't mean there'll be lots in your area. My DS's name has been in the top 3 for the past how ever many years yet he's the only 1 in his year at school. There are more than 2 Finley, Isaac and Noah's though. It's a tricky one as you really can't tell how popular a name is going to be in your area in the year your child is born.

I like Shoobidoo's suggestion of Marcus. I knew a Marcus with the NN Maxi.

poppydaisy · 19/12/2012 14:33

Max is quite 'trendy' and has been widely used already. There will likely be several in his school/workplace as he grows up, which, depending on your surname, may mean he shares his name with lots of others.

I personally would choose a more classic, less overused name. Love the suggestions of Magnus and Winston above or how about Martin, Marius or even Micheal?

chaya5738 · 19/12/2012 16:24

I really love this name but I think it is waaaaaaay too popular now. I wanted to call our son this until I was at the playground in London and heard three Maxs summoned by their mothers in a very short space of time!

GinSoakedMu1berryLush · 19/12/2012 18:55

I love the name Marcus

Doubledouble · 19/12/2012 20:51

I live in the Glasgow area and see around 300 per school aged children per week in my job. Of these I only know one Max... I know one other and he is my 3 year old ds!

I think it really depends on which part of the country you are in.

I love the name Max and I've never come across one. My children are 16, 12 and 5 so I've come across lots of names but never a Max.

Jellykat · 19/12/2012 20:58

Agree with AllDirections, really love it (my fav book ever is 'Where the wild things are') and don't know of any..

bigbluebump · 19/12/2012 22:18

Nice name but yes, there are a lot of them out there already.
