Don't do it!

I'd assume Sherlock Holmes fan, plus three syllables is my limit in a first name.

What about mycroft instead? :o

I'm Scottish (incase my nn isn't obvious) Murray shouldn't be short for anything. If you still want moriarty maybe use moray as a nn. They are pronounced almost exactly the same Murray is muh-ray moray moh-ray. But I suppose it depends on your accent. I really think you have to say it with a hard R.

Paidraigh is nice. I'm sensing a Gaelic theme. Any connection?

Exp wants to shorten Padraigh to Patsy Shock

We will be choosing an Irish name as exp is Irish and for some reason it's important to him. I like Tiernan but it just doesn't have the same impact as Moriarty.

I actually quite like Mycroft

Any name we choose would have to fit in with ds3s name Cormac which Moriarty doesn't really - could always change ds3s name to something more suitable though Wink

Patsy? Ummmmmm..................

I hope ExP doesn't get to call all the shots. Tiernan is way better than Moriarty or Padraigh.

I like Padraig. not with an h on the end of it though.

Straw poll though. Has anybody every known a padraig who ended up not being called podge? much prefer Patrick.

Ooh I love cormac! I knew a cormac once

I've been informed that DSs name is Irish rather than Scottish, Blair. Something to do with an Irish uprising or something.

Cillian is lovely, but you might not like 2 C names. Wouldn't bother me!

Diarmuid
Lorcan
Daragh
Ruairidh/ruairi (fada over the second i in the second spelling but I don't know how to do it!)
Tadgh pronounced tag

Anything there??

I'd think it was poncy, but my DD's name is Artemis which is poncetastic so I guess I like poncy!

Gaiklit - ALL those names are on my list Shock including Cillian, but having two names starting with 'C' bugs me, it just doesn't look right.

Podge Grin

It's not important to me whether his name is Irish or not, but it would fit in with the other boys names if it was and would match the surname.

I'd think the parents were pretentious, trying too hard to be quirky. Sorry, but that's the truth.

My first thought was 'Might as well call him Voldemort.'

Although I do love Merlin.

How is Tiernan pronounced. I think I might like it a lot but I am guessing on how to say it Blush
