WDYT of Dorothea?

It is a variant of Dorothy meaning God's gift. Not very common if going by the name charts. I heard this name while trying to find out a name of a model in the VS Fashion Show.

love it.
it (and it short forms) are quite popular atm.

GrimmaTheNome · 15/12/2012 17:42

I like it. One of the children in the Swallows and Amazons series is a Dorothea (nn Dot). Nicer than Dorothy.

GrassIsntGreener · 15/12/2012 17:44

Jon Jon jovi's wife's name. I know random things!

SnapesOnAPlane · 15/12/2012 17:45

I think it's lovely, but such limited nicknames.
VS Holic, all the models in the VS fashion show

Lovely! Shortened to Thea.

Slainte · 15/12/2012 17:48

Lovely name - it sounds happy IYKWIM

shoppingtrolley · 15/12/2012 19:45

we almost called dd this and I am so glad we gave it a miss. It's too weird and too posh. And too many syllables!

shoobidoo · 16/12/2012 07:26

Lovely, beautiful and feminine. And not overused! I wouldn't shorten at all. It is so pretty!

SledsImOn · 16/12/2012 07:39

Lovely.

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 16/12/2012 07:45

This is top of our list. In fact it is the entirity of our girls list. Istarted a thread a few months back and got lots of positive reactions which allayed my fears about it's old lady connotations.

I love it shortened to Dora or Thea (or Dotty when tiny). It's the name of the main character in Middlemarch & although opinions are divided I admire her character and like that association.

Clarano5 · 04/01/2013 15:45

Great name, not keen on Dotty though. Prefer Thea or Dora as nn.

zenoushka · 04/01/2013 16:14

Love the name. Underused and beautiful. Really like the nn Thea.

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/01/2013 12:40

I like it. Met an Eastern European lady called it once. She pronounced it Doh-row-tay-ah but I'm guessing that's a regional thing?

I'd be inclined more towards thee-ah at the end personally.

TidyDancer · 05/01/2013 15:13

Lovely name, but all nicknames I can think of give me the ick.
