Jax?

We are expecting ds2 in April and DH has just said he LOVES the name Jax........I can't decide if I like it or not.

I've always wanted a little boy called Jack which DH hates so it would be a kind of compromise on that.

I think I like it but am worried that a) our family will do that one raised eyebrow and whispers behind our back for a few months, b) our ds1 is called Harry which is very 'normal' so not sure they go together and c) can see me introducing him to strangers and having to say "no not Jack, Jax....." which could get very annoying.

I love the fact that DH feels strongly about it as I felt that I had more say than him over ds1's name and he's been working abroad for a lot of this pregnancy so has missed scans and appts etc.

What do you guys think?

I knew a Dax too.

I like Jax a lot. X is a great letter.

goralka · 02/12/2012 00:03

do you really want a son called (possibly) 'Jaxie' - as in 'up your jaxie'?

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/12/2012 10:39

Not as a proper name!

bigkidsdidit · 02/12/2012 10:41

Jax is terrible as a full, proper name. If he really likes it Jackson might be a good compromise (I don't particularly like that either bit it's not silly)

Slainte · 02/12/2012 10:42

In Ireland "going to the Jax" means going to the loo.

WonkyWilly · 02/12/2012 20:56

You do know that jax is a slang term for going to the toilet??? Would you seriously do that to your child?

blindworm · 02/12/2012 22:31

You could spell it Jaxon and then you'd have a choice of Jax or Jack as a nickname.

judefawley · 03/12/2012 00:38

Jaxon!

That's doubly terrible.

PerryCombover · 03/12/2012 00:47

This must be a joke, shurley?

RyleDup · 03/12/2012 01:13

Yuck. Sorry.

AhCmonSeriouslyNow · 03/12/2012 01:17

Yep, what Slainte said, the jax is the toilet so no from me. Though as a nickname for something else, I don't mind it.
Our next door neighbour's little boy is Jackson.

MyPetMonsterAndMe · 03/12/2012 01:42

It's my cat's name, so I obviously don't hate it, but I don't think I would use it for a child. I think you'd get tired of saying, "No, it's Jax, with an x not Jack..."

DaveMccave · 03/12/2012 03:00

I love it!

LDNmummy · 03/12/2012 03:24

Also think it sounds like a cleaning product, sorry!

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 03/12/2012 06:06

Sorry...awful.

MadameCastafiore · 03/12/2012 06:09

It's almost as bad as Jaxon! Believe me every time you say his name someone will look at you blankly as they will expect they misheard you saying Jack.

Bunbaker · 03/12/2012 06:12

"Also think it sounds like a cleaning product, sorry!"

Ajax

1978andallthat · 03/12/2012 08:57

I think of a public schoolboy with dreadlocks and a trust fund

sparkle12mar08 · 03/12/2012 11:00

Dear god no, it's awful. I know we're not supposed to stereotype etc, but come on, what do you really think about the instant you hear it? Really?

12ylnon · 03/12/2012 18:04

Not keen i'm afraid. At my secondary school, he would have been known as 'Jax off'....

NigellaTufnel · 03/12/2012 18:23

It is possibly one of the worst names I've seen on here

I have seen a couple of Jaxon/Jaxen's you could use that and have Jax as a nick name. I probably wouldn't use it as his full name just a shortened version/nick name but I don't see anything wrong with Jax.

YouOldSlag · 04/12/2012 11:52

Ajax plus Jif equals Jax.

It's a blunt, aggressive sounding name.

maybe call him Jack (Harry and Jack goes really well) but maybe his family nickname could be Jacks?

LoveYouForeverMyBaby · 04/12/2012 13:54

I really like Jax! Go for it.
