Is it acceptable if you're not Greek? I have a mixed European background but no Greek at all, not a trace... so can I use Athena?

You can use any name you like. DD was going to be Iolanthe - and we have no Greek Heritage.

Problem with Athena is that it makes me think if that poster of the tennis girl flashing her knickers/bum cheek

Or the bloke with the baby?! Was that an Athena one? Never had one of those shops round here, they don't exist at all anymore do they?

Why do brand names have to run good names?! I love Octavia too...bloody Skoda, grrr.

I think you could use it!

Beautiful name - strong and feminine but not 'girly'. Would consider using it myself, but I live in an area with a very large Greek community, and I think may people would assume anyone with this name had Greek heritage. I've taught several Athenas, and they've always been Greek.

Athena would be allright, it is quite "international" rather than just Greek.

To get away from the posters, how about Athene?

strawberrypenguin · 29/11/2012 11:57

Love it and had it short listed for DS if he had been a DD! And no we don't have Greek heritage just like the name.

It might have been - but I am an old gimmer Smile

If you like Greek names what about Cassiopeia (nn Cassie) or Hero or Alexandra or Iris or Anastasia - all nod to the Greek without being out and Greek IFSWIM
